After he debuted on BPitch with the sublime „Velvet Rag EP“ (BPC316), the Berlin-based producer Phon.o is back with three more of his effective hybrid tracks. The „Fractions EP“ starts moving with the hypnotic drive of „Run“, in which the dramatic arrangement of the partly frisky, partly menacing Detroit strings evokes nostalgic memories – file under soulful big room material. Followed by „Brooklyn Shuffle“ with its swinging flow at 128 BPM, Phon.o is building another bridge between London, New York, and Berlin by unfolding his UK garage sound, including 2-step drums, melodic synths, and the well-known vocal bits. Finally, the subsonic bass lines and reduced percussion of the emotional title track „Fractions“ creating a dark and gloomy atmosphere that is counteracted with contemplative melancholy thanks to those manipulated voices. The always on-point Hypercolour imprint deliver ʻDonʼt Put Me in Your Boxʼ EP from the talented Maya Jane Coles this winter. Featuring four new original cuts and artwork created by the multi-faceted producer, the EP marks the final 12" release before her album project takes hold in 2012.

The attention on Maya Jane Coles throughout 2011 has been about as intense as it gets and for good reason. Her productions, written, produced, engineered and voiced by the young artist herself, have won respect and support from peers, punters and press alike -- whether producing house, bass music as Nocturnal Sunshine or electronica alongside Lena Cullen as She is Danger.

Having recently remixed Little Dragon, Tricky and DJ T, Maya is building on early successes beautifully and this current EP for her friends at Hypercolour continues that progress in fine style.

ʻDonʼt Put Me in Your Boxʼ is the London-based producerʼs most ambitious EP yet. Much like her previous output the rich, melodic and warm characteristics are present but thereʼs an increasing maturity that bleeds across the four tracks.

The classic deep house tropes of Colesʼ early material are still superbly delivered in ʻParallel Worldsʼ and ʻCutting It Fineʼ but are presented in a refreshingly subtle and original context that provides a snapshot of contemporary house music at itʼs finest. While those bookending tracks tip a nod to previous material the lurching, dub-house of ʻDub Childʼ and the strikingly beautiful melodies ʻSomething in The Airʼ see the young producer exploring, creating a well-rounded EP touching on the breadth of modern house.

The pairing of one of the most exciting artists around with one of the most bankable imprints is always an enticing prospect but Maya Jane Coles on Hypercolour is essential.

The first new MUNK  since 2 years. A mad track. Already played by Tensnake, Maxxi Soundsystem, Recloose and Todd Terje who told us that he is dropping it in every set he is playing since he had it. 
The tune was recorded by Mat Munk Modica in Brasil and Berlin. Featuring brazilian punk singer Gab Cervallos.
It's crazy. Somebody called it : New Wave Funk House. Maybe he was right...
