Bristol disco pets Behling & Simpson﻿ heat it up for Exploited Rec﻿ boss Shir Khan's Black Jukebox series. All four tracks are built for rooftop parties with the deep V crew, from the filtered strings and soul swagger of 'Hurt Me More' to the swinging boogie pose of 'Don't Need U' with Shanti Celeste﻿, and over to the subbass-bugged R&B ace 'Linctus' and the fruity wiggle of 'String 01'.

You may well know Bristol's Behling & Simpson for their chunky, slow-mo releases on Futureboogie, 2020 Midnight Visions, Applepips and Outernational, or their underground edits of Faith Evans, Ciara and Julio Bashmore. And you may have heard their tunes in sets by people like Jackmaster, X-Press 2, Tensnake, Midland, Funk D'Void and Pete Tong, amongst others. For this 4 track EP on Berlin's Exploited Records, the duo continue their run of exquisitely produced, distinctive house music, retaining their unique sound whilst also embracing faster tempos than previously.

A1: Hurt Me More (123 bpm)

Already causing a buzz in label boss Shir Khan's DJ Sets in Ibiza and Barcelona, 'Hurt Me More' works with the classic house-music paradox of 'uplifting melancholy', as a euphoric disco loop is paired with a soulful vocal, deeper rhode chords and that unmistakeable Behling & Simpson drum work. 

A2: Don't Need U ft Shanti Celeste (113 bpm) 
 
Having first appeared on the lead track of their 2020 Midnight Visions EP ('Closer'), Behling & Simpson team up again with singer Shanti Celeste for one of their toughest beats to date. Deliciously warm subs and a tuff metallic percussion section work perfectly with Shanti's life-affirming vocal and classic house pianos. 

B1: Linctus (113 bpm)

Could you call it 'slow speed garage'? Bouncing 808 bass meets New Jack Swing vocals and New York brass stabs over a seriously grooved drum track.

B2: String O1 (118bpm)

Pumping compressed drums, analogue sub bass, filtered techno stabs and an improvised synth string line… Perfect for those eyes down, groove-led moments.

Crosstown Rebels assemble an A-star team of pioneers and legends for the next mammoth release on the label. ‘Touch Your Body’ comes courtesy of Felix Da Housecat, Jamie Principle and Vince Lawrence aka The 312 with sublime remixes from Moodymann.

Felix Da Housecat explains how “growing up on south side of Chicago I was a huge fan of Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle. Vince Lawrence was over at Chicago Trax and was the blueprint A&R and catalyst there signing anything hot. By this time I was around 14 and I had just made my first record ‘Fantasy Girl’, with DJ PIERRE. Over the years I was becoming obsessed with Jamie’s sound. We soon became friends and always discussed working together and it took 15 years. Frankie’s passing woke me up. I felt I wanted to do something special and it was time to fly back to Chicago to my roots. I wanted to go back where it all began and work with the originators. I called Vince and said I need your mind, guidance and your studio and all of us in one room to bring that spirit back in my soul. I told him we had Jamie Principle and the rest I guess is history. I wanted Crosstown for the project as I felt Damian was the only guy worthy and would understand and treat this project right. House Music needs this right now.. So here we are.”

Felix Da Housecat’s career spans more than thirty years with two Grammy nominations. Never failing to impress, he now brings us his latest venture as producer of The 312 project. Jamie Principle is one of the most recognisable voices in the history of house music, featuring on some of the first house records ever made including the seminal ‘Your Love’ with Frankie Knuckles. Business man, producer and Trax Records organizer Vince Lawrence is another true Chicago house music innovator, responsible for the pivotal house track ‘On & On’ with Jesse Saunders and the ‘Virgo Tracks’ releases. Mahogani Music founder Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann grew up in Detroit with his first several releases appearing on Carl Craig’s Planet E imprint. 2016 saw him next in the series to mix the respected ‘DJ-Kicks’ with outstanding results.
