As one half of legendary US duo MURK, Oscar G has been responsible for some of the most powerfully evocative house records ever recorded. With an array of successful solo ventures across standout imprints such as Nervous Records, and his own label Made In Miami Records, there is no questioning his house authority. Now after a five-year hiatus he returns to DFTD with the aptly titled ‘Party People’, a three-track package that celebrates his diverse style. Opening with the rumbling title track, a creeping synth line and thunderous drums are tempered by the velvet vocal. Up next, ‘Cash’ delivers a more stripped-back offering, with a spoken word vocal and temperate percussion. Finally ‘OG Groove’ closes out the release with a distinctly more laid-back vibe, as tribal drums, a hypnotic vocal and jazz-infused sax deliver a sunset vibe.

Originally released back in 2006 on Defected, Copyright’s ‘He Is’ remains a beloved dancefloor anthem to this day. The record, which saw the duo return to the US Garage sound that propelled them into clubber’s consciousness at the dawn of the millennium, features a praising vocal from Song Williamson, with charged up keys and rounded groove that gave it its euphoric quality. Now, 14 years after it was first released, two esteemed producers remix the Balearic anthem. Up first, mysterious Detroit collective Scan 7 supply their uplifting mix, as a pumping bassline and funk-laden instrumentals provide a joyous backdrop to Song Williamson’s rejoicing vocal. Up next, Italian powerhouse duo Alaia & Gallo deliver their mix, building on the exhilarating qualities of the original with surging kicks and a punchy beat.

When Mike Dunn released his Classic Music Company debut ‘My House From All Angles’ last year, the album was met with critical acclaim, The Guardian writing: “God may have made him funky, but Mike Dunn has kept it going ever since.” Now, two stand out cuts from the LP are given the remix treatment, enlisting some of the label’s closest cohorts to re-work these two irresistible hip-house jams. Up first, Peppermint Jam boss Mousse T. opens the release, weaving in his signature bouncy melodies and funk-flavoured grooves into ‘If I Can’t Get Down’. Up next, Classic label-mate and house expert Oliver Dollar brings in a raw, edgier sound on his Boomty Mix of ‘DJ Beat That Shhh’, with an aptly bumping bassline. Classic label boss Luke Solomon provides his Clubland Remix of ‘If I Can’t Get Down’ next, enlisting funky guitar riffs and energetic percussion. Finally, Livin’ Proof and Barbershop Records founder Snips takes a stripped back approach to the same record, highlighting Mike’s unmistakable Windy City drawl with jazzier elements to give the mix a vintage feel. Uniting the worlds of rap and house, this remix package is a joyous celebration of what he does best, with this remix package securing its position as a house essential.

Mike Dunn - If I Can't Get Down (Mousse T.'s Funky Shizzle Mix)

In times of trouble and uncertainty music can provide great relief for the soul, and DAVIE’s triumphant Defected debut ‘Testify’ does exactly that. A joyous introduction to the Brooklyn artist, this single demonstrated an ability to strike the balance between classic and contemporary sounds seamlessly. Now, the record DAVIE himself describes as, “a dance song, not a gospel song,” gets four brand new remixes. Up first, Peppermint Jam boss Mousse T. plays to the gospel elements of the original, with deep, powerful chords and rhythmic claps, bringing a snapping groove to the cut. Next, London talent KDA goes for a clubbier sound, looping the vocal and raising the BPM. Alan Dixon’s funk-fuelled remix follows, with melodic keys and irresistible horns. Finally, undisputed master of the disco edit Danny Krivit delivers his sublime club-friendly version, extending the original Danny maintains the feel, with subtle adjustments that give it a more refined sound.

My Vision featuring Seal was the third Jakatta single. It was released 18-years ago and reached number 6 in the UK pop chart. Breakout disco duo The Vision, whose singles ‘Heaven’ and ‘Mountains’ have been recent club anthems, have stepped into the studio to rework it into a future classic. They strip it back and lower the tempo, adding a sleazy funk led bassline, heartwarming strings and catchy piano work. A perfect combination for Seal’s captivating vocals to shine on.
