Off the back of the first Mainframe single I was asked by Junior to remix Pete Heller's Stylus Trouble "Sputnik", already a colossal record so it was a touch on the intimidating side if I'm honest. Don't remember much about doing it except it was the first time I used my top secret plug-in on a track. I'd been thinking it would be groovy to have an effect that chopped up sound in the same way that a spun coin sounds as it starts to slow down and falls on the table - a sudden rush of shorter and shorter repeats that get incredibly fast then stop. I took a bit of a blaggers chance and mentioned this to one of the coders at Cycling 74 and he quickly wrote me a very simple dirty plug-in that did just that job. It was hammered on a lot of KU afterwards but it got its first outing in the drop of the "Sputnik (Mainframe Dub)". I also remember Matthew going to see Sasha at Cream and coming back to tell me that a) Sasha had played the dub and b) the place had gone fucking nuts. Exciting stuff :)

Monki makes her DFTD debut with the highly-charged ‘Electricity EP’. After smashing her BBC Radio 1 residency, setting up her own record label &Friends, and joining the Defected crew for sets in Ibiza and Croatia, Monki’s dual single comes at a crucial moment for the presenter, DJ and producer, and certainly doesn’t disappoint. She throws down her signature bass-heavy and soul infused sound with ‘Electricity’, pairing prominent hi-hats with high impact build-ups. ‘ENG98’ echoes a classic house sound with uplifting piano moments and vocals loops, completing a seriously stomping release with a sound that translates from festival arenas to euphoric club moments.

The man known only as Lord Leopard, has been smashing it on all fronts of late.  When not riding the surf in his local Cornish town, the good Lord has been chalking up stellar releases for the likes of Edible, Classic Music Company, Cajual and Music For Freaks.

Always with a deft ear for hooky club tracks, and a set of dancing feet for a good groove, Lord Leopard delivers the ‘Swipe Right’ EP for Street Tracks, featuring a trio of tasty, slammin’ cuts.

‘Swipe Right’ goes for the jugular; a spirited dance floor jam that evokes the very best in classic house music, its bass and rhythm section coming over like a long lost Danny Tenaglia production, whilst a twisted, looping riff is deployed to arouse the drama already set by a soaring vocal.

‘Ill Vibe’ is cut from similar cloth, with its rattling drums, booming bottom end and a blitz of stabs, one shots and FX’d samples, making for a dope, underground house cut.  Drawing the release to a close, ‘Juiced’ serves up jazzy vibes over clip-cloppety beats, the roots of which lie in that Chicago/Paris house sweet spot that Lord Leopard always hits so well with every release.

Having been at the forefront of dance music for over a decade, James Connolly revives his house-focused Dance System project for this first-rate single summer for Eats Everything’s Edible label. 

If slammin’ house bangers are what you like, then Dance System delivers them in spades.  An infectious piano motif and thumping kick shapes the lead track, ‘Please’, which pumps relentlessly, bountiful with playful vocal chops, tension building strings and DJ trickery edits.  The gloriously titled ‘Make Funky House Great Again’ certainly makes a damn fine stab at doing just that.  A skippy rhythm underpins some dope filter work on the sample, a nod perhaps to the French sounds of Roule/Bangalter, but totally fresh with Dance System’s modern sound stamped all over it.

Connolly has left an indelible mark as a progressive producer and DJ under both his L-Vis 1990 and Dance System aliases, alongside co-founding the highly influential label, Night Slugs.  Following Dance System releases on Clone and Ultramajic, Connolly took a hiatus from producing house music, as he focused on other projects, reviving the alias in April with the Wind 'Em Up EP, on Monkeytown Records, which was supported by Calvin Harris, Peggy Gou, DJ Boring, Ben UFO, Modeselektor, Sally C, Éclair Fifi, Mella Dee and our very own Eats Everything.
