ਝਾਲਾਘੇ ਉਠਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥
Rise early in the morning, and chant the Naam; worship and adore the Lord, night and day.

ਕਾਰ੍ਹਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਨ ਬਿਆਪਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਟੈ ਉਪਾਧਿ ॥੧॥
Anxiety shall not afflict you, O Nanak, and your misfortune shall vanish. ||1||

O my companions, now I dwell with my Beloved Husband; my mind and body are attuned to the Lord.

सुणि सखीए मेरी नीद भली मै आपनड़ा पिरु मिलिआ ॥
Listen, O my companions: now I sleep well, since I found my Husband Lord.

ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਖੋਇਓ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਕਉਲੁ ਖਿਲਿਆ ॥
Bhram Khoeiou Saanth Sehaj Suaamee Paragaas Bhaeiaa Koul Khiliaa ||
भ्रमु खोइओ सांति सहजि सुआमी परगासु भइआ कउलु खिलिआ ॥
My doubts have been dispelled, and I have found intuitive peace and tranquility through my Lord and Master. I have been enlightened, and my heart-lotus has blossomed forth.

Aasaa, First Mehla, Chau-Padhay:

ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ॥
vidhiaa veechaaree taa(n) paraupakaaree ||
(ਵਿਦਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਲਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਮਝੋ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Contemplate and reflect upon knowledge, and you will become a benefactor to others.

ਜਾਂ ਪੰਚ ਰਾਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਾਸੀ ॥੧॥
jaa(n) pa(n)ch raasee taa(n) teerath vaasee ||1||
ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।੧।
When you conquer the five passions, then you shall come to dwell at the sacred shrine of pilgrimage. ||1||

ਘੁੰਘਰੂ ਵਾਜੈ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
ghu(n)gharoo vaajai je man laagai ||
ਜੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ (ਭਗਤੀਆ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਘੁੰਘਰੂ ਵਜਾਣੇ ਸਫਲ ਹਨ । 
You shall hear the vibrations of the tinkling bells, when your mind is held steady.

ਤਉ ਜਮੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੇ ਮੋ ਸਿਉ ਆਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tau jam kahaa kare mo siau aagai ||1|| rahaau ||
ਫਿਰ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
So what can the Messenger of Death do to me hereafter? ||1||Pause||

ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ ਤਉ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ॥
aas niraasee tau sa(n)niaasee ||
ਜੇ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਕ-ਆਸਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਮਝੋ ਇਹ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਹੈ ।
When you abandon hope and desire, then you become a true Sannyaasi.

ਜਾਂ ਜਤੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਇਆ ਭੋਗੀ ॥੨॥
jaa(n) jat jogee taa(n) kaiaa bhogee ||2||
(ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ) ਜੋਗੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਤ (ਕਾਇਮ) ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਲ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਜਾਣੋ ।੨।
When the Yogi practices abstinence, then he enjoys his body. ||2||

ਦਇਆ ਦਿਗੰਬਰੁ ਦੇਹ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
dhiaa dhiga(n)bar dheh beechaaree ||
ਜੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਦਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਦਿਗੰਬਰ (ਨਾਂਗਾ ਜੈਨੀ);
Through compassion, the naked hermit reflects upon his inner self.

ਆਪਿ ਮਰੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਨਹ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
aap marai avaraa neh maaree ||3||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲ ਅਹਿੰਸਾ-ਵਾਦੀ) ਜੋ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ।੩।
He slays his own self, instead of slaying others. ||3||

ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਹੋਰਿ ਵੇਸ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥
ek too hor ves bahutere ||
ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵੇਸ ਹਨ, ਹਰੇਕ ਵੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ।
You, O Lord, are the One, but You have so many Forms.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਚੋਜ ਨ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੪॥੨੫॥
naanak jaanai choj na tere ||4||25||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਵਿਚਾਰਾ) ਤੇਰੇ ਕੌਤਕ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੪।੨੫।
Nanak does not know Your wondrous plays. ||4||25||
