"It’s 2022. We are back on playa after the pandemic break. With us, Mayan Warrior in its natural habitat. 
 
We ride out in the middle of a dust storm, along with my chosen 100 tracks. The selection is inspired by what Mayan Warrior means to me. It represents the fusion between contemporary art and tradition. Crazy lasers over the handcrafted god’s eye. Unmatched sound coming from a millenary Mayan figure. A representation of what makes Mexico such a special place.

It’s a mix of old tracks I love and unreleased music from some of my favorite artists. A lot of it from Mexican artists and labels. As I am about to start, I see dozens of bikes powering through the storm. I trash my original plan on song 2 as I try to capture the moment. Eventually, a beautiful sunset emerges. This is my set on top of the Mayan Warrior.

I hope you like it. Thank you to everyone that came out to ride with me. And THANK YOU Mayan team. Thank you for the insane amount of work put in this beautiful piece of art roaming the desert. For the years of inspiration and incredible music."

Nacho Isa - Mayan Warrior - Burning Man 2022

It was a decade best summed up by podcasts, cancel culture, fake news and memeing our way through tragedy and triumph. But was 2012-2022 any crazier than eras past, or was it that the prevalence of social media put major international events on our digital doorsteps? A Hollywood star becoming the leader of the free world? Bizarre… but it wasn’t the first time. 

Obscure global events just felt more tangible than ever, and we were all finally able to have our say. Communication with pop stars and major companies was instantaneous, and stardom was diluted by the ability for strangers to become a viral sensation overnight. 

With the advance of accessible technology came the explosion of bedroom producers like Flume, who would dictate the direction and popularity of an entire genre. At a glance, many could argue it was the death of originality in pop culture, with covers, remixes, sequels, prequels and remakes dominating the mainstream. The recent emergence of AI will either give those creative minds the resources to forge a new path into 2032, or accelerate us into repetition.

After 6 years of creating sunrise soundtracks from atop the Robot Heart bus, it is a challenge to avoid submitting to a formulaic approach. One of the biggest perks of producing a Robot Heart sunrise is that you can take risks; explore soundscapes and dynamics, knowing that the mystical Deep Playa setting allows for pauses and quiet moments that don’t translate in loud clubs or multi-stage festivals. This year, the set was a journey starting with robots and ending with humans. I wanted the sun to come up to the sound of arguing AI robots. What you heard was a transcript from the actual negotiation between two AI bots at Facebook earlier that summer;

Other than it creating a surreal environment as the sun came up, it also proved a perfect palette cleanser to transition from night into day. The sounds of flutist Claire Chase immediately afterwards set the tone for the 90 minutes to follow. I remembered Robert Miles (we lost him this year) with a beautiful guitar version of his song "Children", and then introduced spiritual emcee and rising star Elliott LaRue. He delivered a chilling live message from the top of the bus about our challenges and responsibilities as humans. And that about summed up the Scumfrog sunrise from 2017. Enjoy the memories!

The Scumfrog - Robot Heart - 10 Year Anniversary - Burning Man 2017

My first international DJ set performed at Midburn 2018 in the Negev desert of Israel! Major life highlight for me : )

All around this was an amazing experience. Everyone @ Midburn was incredibly friendly and welcoming, being able to perform was a huge highlight, and experiencing the international community was just awesome. 

This mix flows from tribal roots to a melodic crescendo, then back down into a solid block of driving melodies and dance-floor goodness. I'd been working on it for a while and was super grateful to be able to share it with everyone. Happy listening!
