Originally from Finland, Carmen Electro's formative years were shaped by her experiences in America and across Europe, each destination leaving an indelible mark on her artistic identity.

Drawing inspiration from her diverse upbringing, Carmen's DJ sets pay homage to the rich legacy of techno. While she seamlessly navigates through various electronic music genres, it's techno that serves as the red thread tying everything together. Her electrifying performances are more than just DJ sets; they're transformative experiences designed to awaken the primitive dancer within us all. With an affinity for old-school raves, she effortlessly channels her boundless energy into every track, creating an atmosphere that touches on different emotions from deep to tribal, from ecstatic, to pounding. The most meaningful experiences in her artistic life have been connecting with people to whom dance was the only way to express their identity freely, against the environment or society's expectations.

Her fearless attitude towards DJing mirrors her approach to life itself. Carmen believes in living life to the fullest, embracing new experiences, and pushing the boundaries of comfort to foster personal and artistic growth. For her, vinyl isn't just a medium; it's a tool for self-expression and exploration, allowing her to connect with audiences on a deeper level.

She is a producer and DJ whose sets carry a clear signature and genuine emotion. Shaleen tells stories through sound and pulsing, atmospheric journeys that reach far beneath the surface. Her music feels warm, her transitions vivid, driven not by perfection but by authenticity. This approach shapes not only her DJ sets but also her own productions. Alongside her Tresor West residency and her work as a producer and DJ, she carefully builds platforms of her own. With SURD, a multidisciplinary event series in the Ruhr area, she brings together electronic music, visual art and social discourse. And with Spellbound, her new label, she opens a space for experimental, hypnotic sounds – raw, playful and profoundly deep.

In an interview with Andre Kronert, Shaleen speaks about long hours in the studio, producing modularly and surrendering fully to improvisation. Without pre-planned structures or digital safety nets, she immerses herself in a creative process led by instinct. Her inspiration comes from personal experience and electrifying textures brought to life through analog equipment.

This is one of my most-requested live recordings in a while! For 4 days at Fusion, ~80,000 people grow a tail and run free in the German forest. It’s what happens when uncompromising art collides with anti-capitalistic freedom. I was invited to play on Saturday night from 2:30am-4:30am on Fusions biggest stage, Turmbühne. Soundtracked by heavy, intense psychedelia, this is a story of moving everybody from the darkest hour straight into sunrise. I wanted to push people’s limits, but I also wanted it to be fun. Thank you to those still standing and especially to the Fusion crew.
