From breaking through in the early 90s right when things were still done wild, helming the legendary Lost club nights from 1992 onward, onto becoming a pioneering figure of the UK's underground, it's safe to say Steve Bicknell ticks all the boxes of a self-made myth in the scene. Tirelessly pushing the boundaries of techno as we know it, the British don has been carving out his name in gold letters amongst the pantheon of DJs capable to evolve and transcend both themselves and their audience through the cathartic power of music. Always a step ahead, Bicknell treats us to two hours of resolutely immersive and achingly powerful soul-search, seamlessly criss-crossing our brains with his top-of-the-range anti-bullshit techno medicine. Del4raa, also known as Delara Toyuri, is an accomplished Iranian musician based in Tehran. Developing her passion for music from the age of 4 with the piano, she thrived in a musically appreciative family, excelling in national piano competitions. Discovering Carl Cox's music as a teenager inspired her to blend enchanting melodies with robust grooves and industrial effects for the dance floor. Collaborating with her music partner under Mahara music, they crafted six melodic tracks fusing deep meaningful melodies with techno, later diving into the Raw/Deep/Hypnotic genre. Their EP "Resilient" is now available on Lonn Records, featuring the track "Rebirth" premiered by Deephousetehran and released by Coolkidzrec. Join this podcast to embark on a journey through Delara's musical palette.

By playing several instruments, he acquired a basic musical knowledge, which he now uses in his field of electronic music. VSSL loves to play all subgenres of techno. His sound varies from deep polyrythmic records to fast & powerfull techno. One thing is particularly important to him: to take the people on the dancefloor on a journey where the music and the atmosphere it creates are in the foreground. He has demonstrated his passion for DJ-ing in various clubs, including Club Rote Sonne, where he is a permanent resident.

Ribé, the alias of Alberto Pascual, is invited for our 182th podcast. He started his musical journey in 1998 at the age of 14 when he started creating his first mixes using tape decks. A first big breakthrough happened when he first published his EP on Richie Hawtin's label Plus 8, which brought momentum to his career. His musical project took a new turn when he started exploring modular synthesis, releasing music on PoleGroup, and later, on Klockworks and Axis. Now Ribé often plays live sets using his modular synths.
This podcast is a mix of uncompromising sounds, ranging from industrial to more hypnotic textures over thick rolling basslines.

RETROSPECT 108: ZUZANAH

From London’s inner suburbs comes this next guest, a through and through veteran of UK techno whose touch has left a lasting mark on the world around him. Steve Bicknell’s early days were spent in the intoxicating worlds of dub, reggae, acid, DIY warehouse parties and pirate radio, an auspicious mix of references that would inspire him to make music of his own. After a string of residencies at the UK’s then most influential parties, he launched his own series with creative collaborator Sheree Rashit: LOST. These legendary gatherings brought together names like Plaid, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Robert Leiner, Basic Channel, and a wider array of future techno hegemons. This was swiftly succeeded with the duo’s launch of imprint Cosmic Records, whose triumph went on to spawn another three successors: LOST (early provider of Bicknell’s dancefloor sounds), Clubtracks (for Chicago-leaning fare) and ID(entity) (a channel for the work of well established music-makers who wanted to release under a secret alias). A nine-year pause in productions came to a halt in the mid 2010s with Steve’s most recent label, 6dimensions, an exploration in sound and the whole spectrum of human emotion. Finally, 2017 saw Steve team up with Luke Slater and David Sumner under the LSD sobriquet, a force for the creation of ‘lysergic machine music’, heavily danceable stuff (just ask ADE, Dekmantel, Awakenings). With a story as full and enduring as Steve’s there’s much to pull from, and only experience in the flesh could attest to the depth and scope of his musical evolution, but it’s clear that the voice he has honed has only become louder and more refined. It’s a techno that’s fully embodied, a blistering percussive barrage that invokes something profoundly human and fundamental. Bassiani Podcast 217 is just a taste of what Steve has to offer, a window onto a world of sound he’s meticulously crafted for over three decades: masterfully layered and piercing sounds that shimmer and relentlessly rise in lockstep with a formidable 4/4 beat.

Rosati at Stone Techno Festival 2024

Tatsuya Kanamori quickly became one of the few Japanese techno producers to rise to worldwide prominence within the late 90's techno scene with his productions and remixes as DJ Shufflemaster.
Originally a committed member of the Tokyo-based label Subvoice, where he released several of his early EPs, Kanamori's reputation outside of Japan was greatly aided by his affiliation with European techno heavyweights such as Adam Beyer, Joel Mull, Ben Sims and Carl Lekebusch.

It was no surprise that Berlin-based Tresor knocked on the door and offered Kanamori the opportunity to record her first full-length album. In 2001, he appeared via Tresor, a full-length LP packed with a string of dancefloor-oriented techno productions featuring Kanamori's trademark aesthetic, making him one of the first Japanese techno producers to achieve worldwide recognition.
