This gratitude medicine song came to help me recover from the loss of another dear human and appreciate the gift of each day. The acoustics in the shower room of a local swimming pool sounded great, so I recorded it in there on my phone, and came out to catch the harmonies of two women spontaneously joining me in the locker room. Truth is stranger than fiction...

Song-a-week 2024 #26

I wrote the first verse of this acapella chant in January and the last three verses wormed their way into my brain this last week and a half, after singing the first verse with great enjoyment with a bunch of other women at a gathering.

These are all reminders for myself about some aspects of life that I want to remember that I have access to!

Note: 
For community/group singing, the "trust, trust" part goes back and forth between the originator and the rest of the group; the rest of the song can be sung together, alone, or by repeating each line, in community singing fashion.

Song a week 2025 #32

Here's a song I have been working on that I was not able to record until this week. It's a "pocket song", just a singable little ditty that has 3 parts. I finally got my equipment working well enough to get a version of it done, even though the vocals aren't perfectly blended. This is my first attempt at home recording in a few years, other than on my phone, so it can only get better from here! I also am very glad that I figured out how to deal with latency issues and just get a version of it done!

now we're going to sing, a little happy song 

we'll make it simple so, that you can sing along 

we'll sing it once or twice; we'll sing it till the end 

then when we get done, we'll sing it round again

Words from Christian Watson (Mr. Skelly), found online (1924us), slightly altered. 

A valiant effort at putting together some layers. This is a community singing genre chant, with a low harmony. Ideally all the words could be sung at one time, but perhaps it needs to be split into different parts. The timing is a work in progress.  I thought the song could be used as a round, but I didn't get that far. I got into the harmonies instead.

Song a week 2025 #51 - Filling out my song a week 2025 songs with some chants, learning to layer recordings, practicing in a DAW, just doing sketches of possible layers. This one came this morning and I tried a few layers, to decent effect. Of the four chants I have worked on the last few weeks, this is a small step up in production, but it's still just a sketch, a work-in-progress, imperfect timing and all that. It's just a simple concept, meant for self-awareness.
