TELEGRAPHY

Fragments is a mixtape of ideas that were never finished to a typical song structure. This is partly due to Parks Department’s inability to finish the task at hand, but also their ambitions for experimentation and trial and error. Featuring heavy use of processed live instrumentation, iPhone recordings and hard rubbish finds, the sound focuses on the more eclectic side of electronic music, whilst still upholding a pop mentality and danceable nature.

Shine up a quarter, the Black Jukebox is back! Shir Khan presents a quartet of disco house killers on the fifteenth edition of this floor pleasing, ass teasing series. Taking the controls for the A-side are Glasgow duo Illyus & Barrientos, who slap us with a pair of sleazy strollers primed for the peak time. Armed with the finest rolling bassline you're likely to hear this year, "Camel Brother" kicks the EP off in fine style, taking a groove+vocal sample approach reminiscent to Oliver $'s "Doin' Ya Thing", but with a little extra pizzazz and fx use. Things kick up a little bit for "Just Bad Shit", a fist pumping disco house bomb complete with thick, throbbing bass, tight and toppy guitar licks and mind melding spoken vocals. It's one of those cuts which keeps on giving, building to 'huge tune' status as the searing strings and crowd noise flood the frequencies. Over on the flip, Purple Disco Machine (me neither) teams up with synth wizard Lorenz Rhodes, who takes a break from tour duties with Jamie Lidell and Detroit Swindle to bring his intergalactic synth skills to "Birds". A far out fusion of classic house keys, Blaxploitation guitars and samba influences, this jam should do serious damage on the sweatier floors this summer, especially when the breakdown rolls into town. Dayne S takes the controls for the B2, bringing down the curtain with heart lifting sounds of "In The Streets". Walking the tightrope between thwacking beats and gentle melody, Dayne drops intricate soul guitar over wall shaking percussion before taking a keyboard for a walk in the latter stages.Do yourself a favor and pick it up before this limited collector’s item sells out.

After disappearing into the depths of their studio, TJH87 are back from a year long hiatus, during which they have seemingly not only reinvented themselves but are in fact exploring some very new frontiers, crossing so many genres and influences that even they have lost count.

Following their nudisco-esque releases like ’Good Life’ and ’Lost Into The Night’ and being hailed as the ”poster boys for the disco revival” by the Wonderland Magazine TJH87 begins their exploration with a single conveniently titled ”New Horizons”, first of the forthcoming release spree the duo have planned.

Despite the suggestive title, TJH87 doesn’t consider ‘New Horizons’ as a new game plan ”for us it doesn’t feel like a huge change since it just presents a wider view of our influences and musical ambitions than what we were able to do before – so in a way this is what we always done, it just didn’t get out before now”.

New Horizons is filled with influences from indie rock, disco and maybe even trance with huge soundscapes carved into the tiniest details providing a seemingly endless source from which to fill curious minds, listen after listen. It definitely begins an interesting new exploration, and that journey seems well prepared.

UK- based South African producer Ashton Fox has been making music for a while now under various monikers. Obsessed with music from an early age, he grew up playing the violin, piano and guitar - performing in various orchestras and bands until he discovered the endless possibilities of electronic music. SØNDER, began in 2014 with the aim of making music that can accompany walks and long journeys but that can also still somehow find it's way onto a dimly lit dancefloor. With plenty more music on the way and a live show currently in the works, SØNDER's journey has only just begun.
