ਕਲਿ ਸਮੁਦ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਉਧਾਰਨੁ ॥
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
In the ocean of this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord's Name has been revealed in the Form of Guru Arjun, to save the world.

ਬਸਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਰਿਦ੍ਰ ਨਿਵਾਰਨੁ ॥
ਆਪ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤ (ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ) ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਰਿਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ।
Pain and poverty are taken away from that person, within whose heart the Saint abides.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭੇਖ ਅਪਾਰ ਤਾਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਅਪਾਰ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ ।
He is the Pure, Immaculate Form of the Infinite Lord; except for Him, there is no other at all.

ਮਨ ਬਚ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਣਿਅਉ ਭਯਉ ਤਿਹ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Whoever knows Him in thought, word and deed, becomes just like Him.

ਧਰਨਿ ਗਗਨ ਨਵ ਖੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸ੍ਵਰੂਪੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਭਰਿ ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਹੀ) ਜੋਤਿ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਤੇ ਨੌ ਖੰਡਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
He is totally pervading the earth, the sky and the nine regions of the planet. He is the Embodiment of the Light of God.

ਭਨਿ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਰਜੁਨੁ ਪਰਤਖ੍ਯ ਹਰਿ ॥੭॥੧੯॥
 ਹੇ ਮਥੁਰਾ! ਆਖਿ—ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਸਾਖਿਆਤ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈ । ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੭।੧੯।
So speaks Mat'huraa: there is no difference between God and Guru; Guru Arjun is the Personification of the Lord Himself. ||7||19||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਹਮ ਭੀਖਕ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਨਿਜ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ 
I am just a poor beggar of Yours; You are Your Own Lord Master, You are the Great Giver.

ਹੋਹੁ ਦੈਆਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨ ਕੰਉ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ । ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ।੧।
Be Merciful, and bless me, a humble beggar, with Your Name, so that I may forever remain imbued with Your Love. ||1||

ਹੰਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ 
I am a sacrifice to Your Name, O True Lord.

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The One Lord is the Cause of causes; there is no other at all. ||1||Pause||

ਬਹੁਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਪਏ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕਉ ਅਬ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੇੜ ਪੈ ਚੁਕੇ ਹਨ, ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ 
I was wretched; I wandered through so many cycles of reincarnation. Now, Lord, please bless me with Your Grace.

ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਐਸੀ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ । ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੨।
Be merciful, and grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; please grant me such a gift. ||2||

ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮ ਪਟ ਖੂਲੇ੍ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਦੇ ਪਰਦੇ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । 
Prays Nanak, the shutters of doubt have been opened wide; by Guru's Grace, I have come to know the Lord.

ਸਾਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹੈ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥੧॥੯॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।੧।੯।
I am filled to overflowing with true love; my mind is pleased and appeased by the True Guru. ||3||1||9||

ਆਸਾ ॥
Aasaa:

ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਜਉ ਤਨੁ ਭਇਓ ਛਿਨੁ ਛਿਨੁ ॥
(ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਹੁਣ) ਜੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ।
What would it matter, if my body were cut into pieces?

ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਉ ਡਰਪੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਜਨੁ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਘਬਰਾਏਗਾ ਜੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ।੧।
If I were to lose Your Love, Lord, then Your humble servant would be afraid. ||1||

ਤੁਝਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਅਰਬਿੰਦ ਭਵਨ ਮਨੁ ॥
(ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਾਮ!) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕਉਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਵਰਗੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਬਣਾ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੈ;
Your lotus feet are the home of my mind.

ਪਾਨ ਕਰਤ ਪਾਇਓ ਪਾਇਓ ਰਾਮਈਆ ਧਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
(ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ-ਕਮਲਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ) ਪੀਂਦਿਆਂ ਪੀਂਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Drinking in Your Nectar, I have obtained the wealth of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਸੰਪਤਿ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਪਟਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ॥
ਸੌਖ, ਬਿਪਤਾ, ਧਨ—ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਉਤੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ); 
Prosperity, adversity, property and wealth are just Maya.

ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਮਗਨ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਤੇਰੋ ਜਨੁ ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਇਹਨਾਂ (ਪਰਦਿਆਂ) ਵਿਚ (ਹੁਣ) ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸਦਾ ।੨।
Your humble servant is not engrossed in them. ||2||

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਤੇਰੋ ਜਨ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰੱਸੀ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ । 
Your humble servant is tied by the rope of Your Love.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਛੂਟਿਬੋ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ॥੩॥੪॥
ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੩।੪।

ਹੇ ਰਵਿ ਹੇ ਸਸਿ ਹੇ ਕਰੁਨਾਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਬੈ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
ਹੇ ਸੂਰਜ! ਹੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ! ਹੇ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਗਰ! ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਲਵੋ।
O Surya! O Chandra! O merciful Lord! listen to a request of mine, I am not asking for anything else from you

ਅਉਰ ਨ ਮਾਗਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਹਉ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋਈ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ, ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾ ਉਹੀ (ਪੂਰੀ) ਕਰ ਦਿਓ।
Whatever I wish in my mind, by that with Thy Grace

ਸਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੋ ਕਹਿ ਸਾਚ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਵਡੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਲੜ ਮਰਾ', ਸਚ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾ, ਨਿਸਚਾ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ।
If I fall a martyr while fighting with my enemies then I shall think that I have realised Truth

ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਗ ਮਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਇਹੈ ਵਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੧੯੦੦॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਤਾ! ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਕਵੀ) ਸ਼ਿਆਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੋ ਵਰ ਦਿਓ ॥੧੯੦੦॥
O Sustainer of the Universe! I may always help the saints in this world and destroy the tyrants, bestow this boon on me.1900.

ਜਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਇਛ ਕਰੋ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਤਉ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਧਨੁ ਦੇਸਨ ਦੇਸ ਤੇ ਆਵੈ ॥
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਾ ਤਾ ਧਨ ਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਚਲਿਆ ਆਉਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When I wish for the wealth, it comes to me from my country and from abroad

ਅਉ ਸਬ ਰਿਧਨ ਸਿਧਨ ਪੈ ਹਮਰੋ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਹੀਯੋ ਲਲਚਾਵੈ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿਧੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਲਚਾਉਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
I have no temptation for any miraculous powers

ਅਉਰ ਸੁਨੋ ਕਛੁ ਜੋਗ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਹਿ ਕਉਨ ਇਤੋ ਤਪੁ ਕੈ ਤਨੁ ਤਾਵੈ ॥
ਹੋਰ ਸੁਣੋ, ਜੇ ਯੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੌਣ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਤਨਾ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਦੇਵੇ। (ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ)
The science of Yoga is of no use to me

ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਭੈ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਇਹੈ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੯੦੧॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਕਵੀ) ਸ਼ਿਆਮ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਇਹੀ ਵਰ ਮੰਗਦ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭੈ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਲੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਵਾ ॥੧੯੦੧॥
Because spending time on that, there is no useful realisation from the physical austerities, O Lord! I beg for this boon from Thee that I may fearlessly fall a martyr in the battlefield.1901.

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸਿਗਰੇ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਅਬ ਲਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਲੋਕ ਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਯਸ਼ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਤਕ ਲੋਕ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗਾਉਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸਿਧ ਮੁਨੀਸ੍ਵਰ ਈਸ੍ਵਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਜੌ ਬਲਿ ਕੋ ਗੁਨ ਬ੍ਯਾਸ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥
ਸਿੱਧ, ਮੁਨੀਸ਼ਵਰ, ਸ਼ਿਵ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਬਲਿ (ਰਾਜਾ) ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਸ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਤਕ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The praise of the Lord pervades the whole universe and this eulogy is being sung by Siddhas (adepts), the highest of sages, Shiva, Brahma, Vyas etc.

ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ਪਰਾਸੁਰ ਨਾਰਦ ਸਾਰਦ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਕ ਸੇਸ ਨ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
ਅਤ੍ਰੀ, ਪਰਾਸ਼ਰ, ਨਾਰਦ, ਸ਼ਾਰਦਾ, ਲੱਛਮੀ, ਸੁਕਦੇਵ, ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ (ਆਦਿਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ ਹਨ।
