ਰੇ ਚਿਤ ਚੇਤਸਿ ਕੀ ਨ ਦਯਾਲ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਬਿਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਕੋਈ ॥
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ? (ਵੇਖੀਂ) ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਤੇ ਆਸ ਨਾਹ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖੀਂ । 
O my consciousness, why don't you remain conscious of the Merciful Lord? How can you recognize any other?

ਜੇ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਪਰਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰੇਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੋ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਰੇਗਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
You may run around the whole universe, but that alone happens which the Creator Lord does. ||1||Pause||

ਜਨਨੀ ਕੇਰੇ ਉਦਰ ਉਦਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਕੀਆ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਦੇ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਦਸ ਸੋਤਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ; 
In the water of the mother's womb, He fashioned the body with ten gates.

ਦੇਇ ਅਹਾਰੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਐਸਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਵੇਖ, ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਉਹ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਦਿਆਲ) ਹੈ ।੧।
He gives it sustenance, and preserves it in fire - such is my Lord and Master. ||1||

ਕੁੰਮੀ ਜਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਤਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪੰਖ ਖੀਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
ਕਛੂ-ਕੁੰਮੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ), ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਬਾਹਰ (ਰੇਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਨਾਹ (ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਖੰਭ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਉੱਡ ਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਖਾ ਲੈਣ), ਨਾਹ (ਕਛੂ-ਕੁੰਮੀ ਨੂੰ) ਥਣ (ਹਨ ਕਿ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਧ ਪਿਆਵੇ);
The mother turtle is in the water, and her babies are out of the water. She has no wings to protect them, and no milk to feed them.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਸਮਝਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
(ਪਰ ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ!) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ, ਉਹ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
The Perfect Lord, the embodiment of supreme bliss, the Fascinating Lord takes care of them. See this, and understand it in your mind||2||

ਪਾਖਣਿ ਕੀਟੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਤਾ ਤਾ ਚੋ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
ਪੱਥਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੀੜਾ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪੱਥਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਰਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ;
The worm lies hidden under the stone - there is no way for him to escape.

ਕਹੈ ਧੰਨਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਮਤ ਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਂਹੀ ॥੩॥੩॥
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਭੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੈ; ਧੰਨਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਡਰ ।੩।੩।
Says Dhanna, the Perfect Lord takes care of him. Fear not, O my soul. ||3||3||

Aasaa:

ਕਾਹੂ ਦੀਨੇ੍ ਪਾਟ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਲਘ ਨਿਵਾਰਾ ॥
To some, the Lord has given silks and satins, and to some, beds decorated with cotton ribbons.

ਕਾਹੂ ਗਰੀ ਗੋਦਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਖਾਨ ਪਰਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
Some do not even have a poor patched coat, and some live in thatched huts. ||1||

ਅਹਿਰਖ ਵਾਦੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥
Do not indulge in envy and bickering, O my mind.

ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
By continually doing good deeds, these are obtained, O my mind. ||1||Pause||

ਕੁਮ੍ਹਾਰੈ ਏਕ ਜੁ ਮਾਟੀ ਗੂੰਧੀ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਨੀ ਲਾਈ ॥
The potter works the same clay, and colors the pots in different ways.

ਕਾਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਤੀ ਮੁਕਤਾਹਲ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੨॥
Into some, he sets pearls, while to others, he attaches filth. ||2||

ਸੂਮਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਕਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
God gave wealth to the miser for him to preserve, but the fool calls it his own.

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
When the Messenger of Death strikes him with his club, in an instant, everything is settled. ||3||

Gond:

ਨਰੂ ਮਰੈ ਨਰੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
When a man dies, he is of no use to anyone.

But when an animal dies, it is used in ten ways. ||1||

What do I know, about the state of my karma?

ਹਾਡ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਲਕਰੀ ਕਾ ਤੂਲਾ ॥
His bones burn, like a bundle of logs;

ਕੇਸ ਜਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕਾ ਪੂਲਾ ॥੨॥
his hair burns like a bale of hay. ||2||

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਨਰੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
Says Kabeer, the man wakes up,

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥੨॥
only when the Messenger of Death hits him over the head with his club. ||3||2||

ਪੁਤੁ ਉਪੰਨਾਂ ਸਤਵਾਂ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਣ ਨੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਉਮਹਿਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਉ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਕਹਿਆ।
ਅੰਤਕਾਲ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਵੇਖਿ ਪੁਤ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਛਹਿਆ।
ਜਮ ਗਣ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਾਂ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਰਗ ਜਮੁ ਡੰਡੁ ਨ ਸਹਿਆ।
ਨਾਇ ਲਏ ਦੁਖੁ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹਿਆ ॥੨੦॥

ਡੁਡਹੁਲਿਕਾ ਮਾਂ ਪੁਛੈ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਵਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੁਰੀਤਾ?
ਸਾਵਾਣੀ ਹਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹੀਤਾ।
ਕਿਸੁ ਉਦਮ ਤੇ ਰਾਜੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤ੍ਰੂ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਮੀਤਾ?।
ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਜਿਦੂ ਹੋਈਐ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ।
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਕਰਣਿ ਤਪੁ ਮਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋਇ ਅਤੀਤਾ।
ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਮਿਓ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਤਾ।
ਪਿਛਹੁ ਰਾਜੇ ਸਦਿਆ ਅਬਿਚਲੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਾ।
ਹਾਰਿ ਚਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਗ ਜੀਤਾ ॥੧॥

ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਸੁਖ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
ਉਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ,
Renouncing pride, she enjoys peace and pleasure.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ (ਕੋਈ) ਵਿੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੀ; 
She surrenders her body and mind to Him, and does not remain separate from Him.

ਅਵਰਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਸੁਨੈ ਅਭਾਖੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਂਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਮੰਦ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਸੁਣਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
She does not see or hear, or speak to another. ||1||

ਸੋ ਕਤ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ) ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ (ਇਹ) ਪੀੜ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ,
How can anyone know the pain of another,

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ ਸੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਉੱਠਿਆ
if there is no compassion and sympathy within? ||1||Pause||

ਦੁਖੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਦੁਇ ਪਖ ਹੀਨੀ ॥
ਉਹ ਛੱੁਟੜ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਹੁਰੇ ਪੇਕੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ 
The discarded bride is miserable, and loses both worlds;

ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਹ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਇੱਕ-ਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ
she does not worship her Husband Lord.

ਪੁਰ ਸਲਾਤ ਕਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥
ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਰਸਤਾ (ਜੋ) ਪੁਰਸਲਾਤ (ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਲਈ) ਬੜਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The bridge over the fire of hell is difficult and treacherous.

ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਗਵਨੁ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
(ਇਥੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਸੰਗੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ, (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਪੈਂਡਾ ਇਕੱਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਲੰਘਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।
No one will accompany you there; you will have to go all alone. ||2||

ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦਰਦਵੰਦੁ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਮੈਂ ਦਰਦਵੰਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, 
Suffering in pain, I have come to Your Door, O Compassionate Lord.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ । 
I am so thirsty for You, but You do not answer me.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, 
Says Ravi Daas, I seek Your Sanctuary, God;

ਜਿਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਕਰੁ ਗਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੩॥੧॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਭੀ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਸਵਾਰ ਦੇਹ ।੩।
as You know me, so will You save me. ||3||1||

ਅਖੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਕਸਾਈਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਖੰਨਿ੍ਹ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੇਮ ਨੇ ਖਿੱਚ ਪਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । 
The eyes which are attracted by the Lord's Love behold the Lord through the Name of the Lord.

ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਢਿ ਦਿਚੰਨਿ੍ਹ ॥੨॥
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਰੱਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
If they gaze upon something else, O servant Nanak, they ought to be gouged out. ||2||
