ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
Kaanraa, Fourth Mehla:

ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ 
Sing the Praises of the Lord God.

ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਪਾਪ ਲਹਾਨ ॥
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Singing His Praises, sins are washed away.

ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਾਨ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, 
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, listen to His Praises with your ears.

ਹਰਿ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕਿਰਪਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ, 
The Lord shall be Merciful to you. ||1||Pause||

ਤੇਰੇ ਜਨ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕ-ਮਨ ਇਕ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ । 
Your humble servants focus their consciousness and meditate on You with one-pointed mind; those Holy beings find peace, chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the Treasure of Bliss.

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
They sing Your Praises, God, meeting with the Holy, the Holy people, and the Guru, the True Guru, O Lord God. ||1||

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਤੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੇ ਤਰੇ ਭਵ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਤੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਜਾਣੋ 
They alone obtain the fruit of peace, within whose hearts You, O my Lord and Master, abide. They cross over the terrifying world-ocean - they are known as the Lord's devotees.

ਤਿਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਹਮ ਲਾਇ ਹਰੇ ਹਮ ਲਾਇ ਹਰੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਤੂ ਤੂ ਤੂ ਤੂ ਤੂ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੨॥
। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ, ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ ।੨।੬।੧੨।
Please enjoin me to their service, Lord, please enjoin me to their service. O Lord God, You, You, You, You, You are the Lord of servant Nanak. ||2||6||12||

ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fourth Mehla:

ਮਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਤੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
The mother loves to see her son eat.

ਮੀਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭਈ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
The fish loves to bathe in the water.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
The True Guru loves to place food in the mouth of His GurSikh. ||1||

ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਹਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
If only I could meet those humble servants of the Lord, O my Beloved.

ਜਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਹਿ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Meeting with them, my sorrows depart. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਛਰੇ ਗਊ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
As the cow shows her love to her strayed calf when she finds it,

ਕਾਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
and as the bride shows her love for her husband when he returns home,

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
so does the Lord's humble servant love to sing the Praises of the Lord. ||2||

ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਸੈ ਜਲ ਧਾਰਾ ॥
The rainbird loves the rainwater, falling in torrents;

ਨਰਪਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
the king loves to see his wealth on display.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਪੈ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
The humble servant of the Lord loves to meditate on the Formless Lord. ||3||

ਨਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਖਾਟੇ ॥
The mortal man loves to accumulate wealth and property.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗਲਾਟੇ ॥
The GurSikh loves to meet and embrace the Guru.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਚਾਟੇ ॥੪॥੩॥੪੧॥
Servant Nanak loves to kiss the feet of the Holy. ||4||3||41||

ਸਾਰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Saarang, Fifth Mehla:

ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਚਰਨਹ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, 
O mother, I have grasped the Protection, the Sanctuary of the Lord's Feet.

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਬਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
 (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਰੁੜ੍ਹ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my mind is fascinated, and evil-mindedness is taken away. ||1||Pause||

ਅਗਹ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਊਚ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹੀ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
He is Unfathomable, Incomprehensible, Exalted and High, Eternal and Imperishable; His worth cannot be appraised.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸਿਓ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਮਹੀ ॥੧॥
ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ।੧।
Gazing upon Him, gazing upon Him in the water and on the land, my mind has blossomed forth in ecstasy. He is totally pervading and permeating all. ||1||

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਹ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਹੀ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
Merciful to the meek, my Beloved, Enticer of my mind; meeting with the Holy, He is known.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਭੀਰ ਨ ਫਹੀ ॥੨॥੮੬॥੧੦੯॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਮਾਂ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੀੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸੀਦਾ ।੨।੮੬।੧੦੯।
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Lord, Nanak lives; the Messenger of Death cannot catch or torment him. ||2||86||109||

ਜੋਗੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੋਗੀ, ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ, ਪੰਡਿਤ, ਭੇਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਧ
The Yogis, the householders, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the beggars in religious robes

ਏ ਸੂਤੇ ਅਪਣੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
ੂ—ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਲੋਂ) ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
- they are all asleep in egotism. ||1||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਲੋਂ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
They are asleep, intoxicated with the wine of Maya.

ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਮੂਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
(ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਲੁੱਟਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) । ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਲੁੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Only those who remain awake and aware are not robbed. ||1||Pause||

ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who has met the True Guru, remains awake and aware.

ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਓਹੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥੨॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ  ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Such a person overpowers the five thieves. ||2||

ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੋ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
One who contemplates the essence of reality remains awake and aware.

ਆਪਿ ਮਰੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਨਹ ਮਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
 ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਧੱਕਾ-ਵਧੀਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੩।
He kills his self-conceit, and does not kill anyone else. ||3||

ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੋ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who knows the One Lord remains awake and aware.

ਪਰਕਿਰਤਿ ਛੋਡੈ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੇ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
He abandons the service of others, and realizes the essence of reality. ||4||

ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਕੋਈ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਹੋਵੇ ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਵੈਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ ਸ਼ੂਦਰ ਹੋਵੇ) ਚੌਹਾਂ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹ
Of the four castes, whoever remains awake and aware

ਜਮੈ ਕਾਲੈ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੫॥
(ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਵਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਿਹਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ) । (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
is released from birth and death. ||5||

ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ
Says Nanak, that humble being remains awake and aware,

ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥੨॥
