ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
First Mehla:

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦਿ ॥
ਰਾਗ ਗਾਣ ਨਾਲ, ਨਾਦ ਵਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ;
He is not won over by music, songs or the Vedas.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੋਗਿ ॥
ਨਾਹ ਹੀ, ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਗਿਆਨ-ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਜਾਂ ਜੋਗ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਧਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ । 
He is not won over by intuitive wisdom, meditation or Yoga.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੋਗੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਰੋਜਿ ॥
 ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਤ੍ਰੁਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਸੋਗ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸ੍ਰਾਵਗ ਸਰੇਵੜੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ); 
He is not won over by feeling sad and depressed forever.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰੂਪਂੀ ਮਾਲਂੀ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
 ਰੂਪ, ਮਾਲ-ਧਨ ਤੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ; 
He is not won over by beauty, wealth and pleasures.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਨੰਗਿ ॥
ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਭਿੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੀਰਥ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਤਿਆਂ ਜਾਂ ਨੰਗੇ ਭਵਿਆਂ । 
He is not won over by wandering naked at sacred shrines.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਦਾਤਂੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਪੁੰਨਿ ॥
ਦਾਨ-ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਰੱਬ ਰੀਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, 
He is not won over by giving donations in charity.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਸੁੰਨਿ ॥
ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ (ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੰਨ-ਮੁੰਨ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਸੀਜਦਾ ।
He is not won over by living alone in the wilderness.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਭੇੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਸੂਰ ॥
ਜੋਧੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਲੜ ਕੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
He is not won over by fighting and dying as a warrior in battle.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਧੂੜ ॥
ਕਈ ਬੰਦੇ (ਸੁਆਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਲ ਕੇ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਿੱਬੜਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
He is not won over by becoming the dust of the masses.

ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ) ਪਰਖ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ 
The account is written of the loves of the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜੀਏ) ।੨।
O Nanak, the Lord is won over only by His Name. ||2||

Aasaa:

ਸੁਤੁ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ॥
ਪੁੱਤਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਤਨੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਲਤੀਆਂ ਕਰੇ, 
As many mistakes as the son commits,

ਜਨਨੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਤੇਤੇ ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
his mother does not hold them against him in her mind. ||1||

ਰਾਮਈਆ ਹਉ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਸੁਹਣੇ ਰਾਮ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਬੱਚਾ ਹਾਂ, 
O Lord, I am Your child.

ਕਾਹੇ ਨ ਖੰਡਸਿ ਅਵਗਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ? ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Why not destroy my sins? ||1||Pause||

ਜੇ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਪ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
ਜੇ (ਮੂਰਖ ਬੱਚਾ) ਬੜਾ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਭੀ ਪਏ, 
If the son, in anger, runs away,

ਤਾ ਭੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂਰਖ-ਪੁਣੇ) ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੀ ।੨।
even then, his mother does not hold it against him in her mind. ||2||

ਚਿੰਤ ਭਵਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ) 
My mind has fallen into the whirlpool of anxiety.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੇ? ।੩।
Without the Naam, how can I cross over to the other side? ||3||

ਦੇਹਿ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਹਣੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੇਹ, 
Please, bless my body with pure and lasting understanding, Lord;

ਸਹਜਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਗੁਨ ਰਵੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਬੱਚਾ) ਕਬੀਰ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ ।੪।੩।੧੨।
