“August Heat” made its first appearance at a Dino Bone-Yarn wig I did with Danny Boy and Shmosay It was mid August and in the mid 90’s temp wise.. I was playing bass on the gig and wrote the song the night before with the intention of having something easy but groovy to sing and play for the gig. Fast forward a year or so it makes an album appearance on Count Blastula’s “JIVE HONEY” with Josh Dekany on drums and Mike Dubaniewicz on sax. This updated version off of “BLAST OFF” swaps out the sax solo with a guitar solo kind of in the urban blues realm. Lush 3 part harmonies at the end of the chorus add a nice depth to the song. The short organ solo is accompanied by a “Purdie shuffle” type drum groove and alternate bass and guitar patterns adding some additional interest to the tune. This song has an appearance by my cat.. (shhh its a secret) if you can find the precise spot you win 1 free count blastula sticker but you gotta send the time mark. This is a new Count Blastula original making its debut appearance on “BLAST OFF”! I wrote this song yikes probably about a decade ago, it was one of the last original tunes I attempted to bring to the table in the Turnip Stampede. A song that is quite literally drenched in acid I recall being somewhat toasted sitting in Burnet Park under a tree writing the lyrics and scribbling the sketch in my notebook. The musical content for the song developed months after the lyrics. Originally I had used the outro melody and changes as an intro as well but last min I erased the intro, the tune now is a bit more through-composed. Funky dark fusiony vibes dipped in an acid bath; the musical pot comes to a gnarly boil by the end of the tune worming and swirling around in an abyss of whole tone nonsense. Neat call and response vocal guitar vibe during the verses with thoughtful almost classical approach to the horn arrangement. Be-bopping excellence from sax aficionado Mark Johnson during the solo section wiggles its way around the unison riff. As you might not know the right wing won the elections in Portugal. I recorded the first part of this radio show right after I voted. The results were not known by the time and I thought this track represented me, the future, the culture, the women and all the LGBTQIA+ community. 
This week the results are out so I want this to be a call for keep fighting for our rights. The first track is a remix from the amazing @violet of Grândola Vila Morena by Sergio Godinho.
