THIS SONG STARTED AS AN ATTEMPT TO FIND THE SAMPLE TO T99’S SEMINAL 1991 WORK “ANASTHASIA”. IT FEATURES MANY WELL KNOWN BREAKS AND SAMPLED BITS, BUT THE STAR OF THE SHOW IS A CHOIR SNIPPET THATS BEEN COMPRESSED TO ALL HELL AND MANIPULATED TO SOUND LIKE ITS COMING STRAIGHT FOR YOU FROM THE DEPTHS BELOW. 

EVENTUALLY, I HAPPENED TO FIND IT. IT’S AVAILABLE ON A LATE 80’S RECORDING OF CARL ORFF’S “CARMINA BURANA”. I TOOK THIS SAMPLE, AND CREATED A SERUM WAVETABLE WITH IT, WHICH IS WHAT YOU HEAR AS THE LEAD SYNTH IN THIS TUNE. I THINK IT FUCKING ROCKS. MY MAIN GOAL LATELY HAS BEEN TO DECONSTRUCT CLASSICAL RAVE TUNES I LOVE INTO THEIR EXACT PARTS, TRYING TO REARRANGE AND MANIPULATE THEM INTO SOMETHING NEW THAT I MIGHT LOVE EVEN MORE.

THIS TUNE IS ALL ENERGY. I’VE PAIRED THE RAUCOUS MAIN HOOK WITH SOME Y2K ERA ACID BLASTS AND ALL IS BOOKENDED WITH AN AMAZING VOCAL I DUG UP FROM CEEJAY’S “A LITTLE LOVE”, WHICH MAY BE THE CHEESIEST LATE 80’S SONG I’VE EVER HEARD. BUT I’M ALL ABOUT RECONTEXTUALIZATION. 

SPEAKING OF THAT, YOU MAY NOTICE, I’VE USED THE MELODY FROM “TUBULAR BELLS” IN THE INTRO AND VERSES. I HADN’T REALIZED I HAD UNTIL LATE IN THE PROCESS, BECAUSE I’VE USED A SAMPLE FROM INSTANT ZEN’S 1994 RELEASE “PLUTONIA” FOR THOSE MELODIES, BUT THEY SEEM TO HAVE RIPPED IT OFF FROM TUBULAR BELLS WELL BEFORE I COULD HAVE THE IDEA. 

ON A SIDE NOTE: I LOVE THAT THE TWO MAIN MUSICAL SAMPLES IN THIS TUNE ARE TUNES CALLED “PLUTONIA” AND “ANASTHASIA”, WOULD MAKE A GOOD T SHIRT. 

THIS MAY BE MY FAVORITE “DANCE FLOOR” TUNE I’VE EVER MADE, THERE ARE NO ENERGY BREAKS, NO SIDE EXPLORATIONS, JUST BEATS AND LOUDNESS. I THINK IT DOES IT’S JOB WELL, AND I HOPE YOU LIKE IT AS MUCH AS I DO.
