Davide Squillace’s new This and That imprint will launch with a three track twelve inch entitled ‘Manifesto.’ The EP sees the label delivering two brand new productions from the This and That boss himself in addition to a collaboration between Davide and Mexican singer, Alex Nazar. The three tracks explore the kind of genre-defying, blend of club atmospheres and emotions that This and That will stand for. This and That Lab will combine music, art and culture to provide a platform for like-minded artists to develop a host of creative projects. The first outlet of the Lab will be music and it is with ‘Manifesto’ that we welcome you to This and That.

‘Pieces of You’ is a bass-driven tech-house cut that comes with plenty of murky atmospherics. Deftly whispered vocals waft over a dense bottom end whilst synth swabs and FX create an unfamiliar but intoxicating soundscape. On the flip, Davide enlists the services of Alex Nazar, the Mexican born but LA based singer for rock band, Delta Wave. Showcasing the pair’s more pop-influenced sensibilities, the track is stripped back, allowing the vocal to take the lead over the underlying deep and rolling bassline. A host of curious sounds and tones in the background inject further personality into what is another inimitable track from the EP. ‘Morning Smile’ is the most laidback of the three, opening amid chiming melodies and a punchy beat. Proving Davide’s skills as a composer, the track builds with a subtle patience towards the colourful yet powerful sound that fills the entire track.

The artwork for the first single is provided by pioneering Italian artist Piero Golia. Having worked across a number of platforms throughout a revered career, Piero Golia drew This and That towards his work with a natural tendency towards flair and audacity. Having previously smashed a full-size passenger bus to fit into a fair booth in addition to producing a shiny metal real size unicorn from the leftovers of his destroyed car, the artist is someone who has never adhered to convention.
