Super loud Howler monkeys! In the tree just above where I stand in an ecoreserve near the Lacandon Jungle, midmorning. First 3, then up to 7 or 8 including a baby who moves about alone but is coddled here and there by an adult. Dark brown to black, when they howl their black lips extend out into thick amplifying skin cones. One always howls first, his testicles dangling down toward me pearly and smooth, like a bag of cheese curd or a tiny white baby's behind. After a while two boys approach me. The younger one starts asking questions and  tries to to speak to the monkeys.

Morning sounds near the Lacandon Jungle

Recorded jungle sounds from two days near the Lacandon Jungle in Chiapas, Mexico. Track begins "Now it's the middle of the night and it's raining. [We're] in my cabin." Small thunder starts in first half of the track and grows gradually louder along with rain sounds. Thunder crack (sounds mild but wasn't) around halfway through. Thunder rumbles decrease after.
