A fresh sound, harmonic, happy and profound, a musical proposal that addresses the richness of Colombian music with new sounds and mixes, through her song.  

Diana Tovar is Caribbean women, singer and composer, a Colombian artist, a powerful songful experience, colorful and festive that goes farther than common places.  She is able to link diverse Colombian geographical sounds by moving from the northern sounds (Son, Porro, Bullerengue, Cumbia, Champeta and Mapalé) to Llanero rhythms like Joropo or Andino rhythms like the Bambuco and Carranga, all the way to the sounds of the Pacific (Currulao, Aguabajo and Tamborito) as well as to Pop and Jazz and every other possible sound in order to reach her own musical identity. Her song is at a place full of uniqueness emblemizing her experience while working with women and children victims of the Colombian conflict, experience that has nurtured her repertoire by seeking the memory of every day living actions that build peace and change the world.  For Diana her song is a memory and a place in itself to tell stories.

The band’s musical feel has placed its bet not only on exploring, learning, knowing and speaking amongst different music and rhythms, but it also seeks discovering the potential of the instruments and those who play them so to achieve new cultural creations that derive and integrate both the experiences and each one’s unique path.   Diana’s band is made up of: Santiago Sandoval on guitar, Julian Gomez on bass, Andrea Jaramillo on percussion and Sebastian Gutierrez on drums.

The project began with Diana as a soloist en 2010 with her the recording of her first single available on line “Evocación Acuatica” (Acuatic Evocation) at Universidad de los Andes with Hugo A. Avila, Luna que te coge (The moon that grabs you) and Nostalgia del Ñame (Nostalgia of the Yam) with Ivan Altafulla on guitar, Jhon Socha on bass, Diego Cadavid on percussion, Andrea Jaramillo on percussion and vocals and Luis Guardela on drums.  By the end of 2011, Diana Tovar records her second single on her Soundcloud sight on Matik Matik with Benjamin Calais, called Diana Tovar, “Patience, Agua de Rosas (Rose Water) and Frío (Coolness), with Juan David Mojica (sax), Julian Gomez, Holman Alvarez (Piano) and Andrea Jaramillo (percussion).

At this point in time she is working on the production of her first record “Canciones de Mar y Río”, she is giving live performances in different stages in Bogota, she shares her knowledge and experience through workshops on singing, voice and movement.  She organizes pedagogical activities; research with communities that have suffered the pain and the consequences of the Colombian war in order to give new meaning to the harm left behind, through cultural and identity resources (artistic, symbolic and recreational).

Director of POLLERA MUSIC, a business initiative with a vision full of hope on the country that gathers artistic, musical and academic interests through song and Colombian music.  She and Viviana Galvis directed the documentary “Las Marcas del Tambor” (The Marcs of the Drum), an investigation taken place in the region of Montes de Maria (Bolivar) that gathers stories of the women singers and women victims of the violence of the armed conflict.  She is part of the Corporación Sonidos de la Tierra, (Sounds of the Land Corporation) as a musical researcher and speaker on the Barú project: Sazón, Rítmo y Creación (Seasoning, Rhythm and Creation), Creative Interdisciplinary Labs in the area of memory and heritage and she is part of the Gea Jurisgenerista Corporation which is dedicated to promote gender justice and to demand rights, strengthening of full citizenship, as well as to promote peace initiatives towards changing cultural and social practices towards women.
