»In May 2008 I recorded a mix digging out tunes that sampled, covered, were inspired by or just paid hommage to Kraftwerk's "The Trans-Europe Express". Mostly vinyl where possible. Burnt to CD-Rs, I gave it away to friends and sold a few in some record stores, online and around Düsseldorf.
 
The mix covered the usage and influence of this tune mostly chronological and showing the development in hip hop as well – 30 years after its release. A few records sampling of it were released shortly before that let the idea grow: R.A. The Rugged Man's "How Low" (2004), Beat Konducta's "Open (Space)" (2005) and Tha Liks' "Hangover" (2006). On the other hand I already owned some records where it was sampled but I wasn't really aware of that, sometimes unconsciously liking those tracks the most on the whole LP (e.g. The 2 Live Crew's "Drop The Bomb").
 
For me it totally made sense to concentrate around one track. Like riddim mixes just with more variations due to different producers. Since no idea's original I don't know if someone did a mix like this before and to this extent. Around that time I just got to know great sample research mixes by Dejoe (All Samples Cleared) and DJ Em O Dee (Handle With Care) with various tracks. Other mixes came up, looking back over the course of rap and hip hop during the last decades by Chris Read (The Diary - World's Greatest Rap Megamix) or The Rub (History Of Hip Hop).
 
I might have missed some tracks sampling T.E.E. because I simply didn't know about, others I didn't feel or they didn't fit quite well into the mix. In the end it should be a nice flowing and edutaining mix celebrating the 30th birthday of this for hip hop and other genres so important track. With some nice leftovers I did a second mix you could have downloaded on myspace over some one-click-hoster back then.
 
Now in May 2020 a few days after the passing of one of the founding members of Kraftwerk it's time to share both mixes as mega-mix via stream. Enjoy.
