As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. 

The first time we featured DJ Nobu on the RA Podcast, over ten years ago, we called him "one of Japan's best DJs." In hindsight, i think we can all agree that the country qualifier is no longer necessary: he's one of the world's best DJs, bar none. An absolute master at curating and mixing techno, Nobu has helped to inspire a Japanese school of techno that is psychedelic, hypnotic and often very pretty, without losing the genre's oomph or edge. And he's more popular than ever around the world, playing some of the best parties and clubs in pretty much any country or city you could name.

But DJ Nobu's roots and heart are close to home. Frustrated with techno in the Japanese capitol, he created his own party in his neighbouring hometown, Chiba, where nightlife was less pretentious and the vibe was a little looser. Future Terror quickly became known as one of Japan's premiere techno parties, and paved the way not only for Nobu himself, but many other Japanese DJs who Nobu and his later partner Haruka gave the chance to shine. The party also recently celebrated its landmark 20th anniversary with its first-ever party in London.

This mix is a direct tribute and encapsulation of Future Terror, what Nobu calls a "condensed story" of the series focusing on the more outré elements at the fore—an "awareness of techno" with plenty of more leftfield tracks thrown in. What follows might be a little gentler than you'd expect from Nobu, but it's all top-tier techno mixed with an expert hand.

Stella's album War Bride is one of those works of art that leave me so changed after experiencing them. It was instrumental for me in understanding the ghosts that accompany me on the dance floor, so I was humbled that she was able to create something for this project. Her mixtape "Dream Jumble" is a performance of original productions, emotional selections, and fragmented vocal samples, whispering like a haunting upon the ancestral beat.

海外巡演常置人於飄搖的情況－SIM卡沒辦法運作，付款方式屢遭拒絕，與複雜的地緣政治離不開關係的簽證申請過程。 然而，以Bungalovv為名發行音樂的Pablo Betas，在開啟三個月的亞洲巡演前，便已對飄搖的環境了熟於心。 他在阿根廷飄搖不定的經濟及政治環境中度過了大半輩子，前幾年則作為移民工人在柏林的創意行業中工作，這些經歷已使他與飄搖（precarity）結下了深厚的關係。 他的人生是以持續的創作去面對飄搖處境的故事。

Touring overseas puts you in precarious situations—SIM card that doesn’t work, payment methods that get declined, complex visa application processes entangled with geopolitical complexities. Pablo Betas, who releases music under the alias Bungalovv, however, knows precarity well even before taking on the three-month long tour in Asia. Having lived amid the perpetually precarious economic and political climate in Argentina and worked as a migrant worker in the creative field in Berlin for the past few years, he has formed a deep relationship with precarity. His story is one that negotiates precarity with the consistent act of creating.

We are back in action. After a few months of silence, the label is again active with a fresh release straight to the dance floor. The protagonist of this comeback is @matteojust, a German multidisciplinary artist who presents a short but powerful EP, designed for DJs and uncompromising dance lovers.

In “bairro bairro”, Matteo fuses the vibrant energy of Brazilian funk with structures and textures typical of techno: enveloping melodies, sharp percussion, and grooves that never let up on the dance floor. A sonic cocktail that exudes party spirit, dynamism, and pure intention to get bodies moving. In addition to the two original tracks that present the EP is an amazing remix by none other than our dear @apeidon__, a tune that has already made it to a couple of Rinse FM shows and is thought of as a straight dancefloor tool.
