I can honestly say this has been one of the very worst, bizarre, shit scary and at times wonderful years of my life where the important stuff all became so clear and much more important, and the shit stuff became obvious for what it always was…

Well I really can’t imagine anything more exciting than signalling better times ahead by spending a weekend in a field with my brothers and sisters from Sancho Panza at their annual dancing jamboree Campo Sancho!!!

The thought of being together, dancing to music, talking and hanging out for a whole weekend actually gives me the total tingles.

I love Jim and Matt. They are without a doubt two of the good guys of the music and events industry. They do everything they do with passion and for the benefit of people. They love music and their energy spreads into everything they do. Decades throwing parties at London Carnival, Glastonbury and beyond stand testament to that.

And when you play or dance at one of their events you can feel something else truly special. Something called community. Many of their people have also been with them for decades. People know each other. People love each other. The feeling is strong!

Now it’s time to dance, drink, laugh and love again.

I got so excited about the prospect of playing live again to real people in a field surrounded by passionate people that I did an exclusive mix for Sancho to celebrate life. I hope you enjoy the music and will dance with me.

I was bowled over by the kindness & generosity of people. But this is kinda of normal in Brasil tbh. It’s one of the things I cherish about the place. & it certainly helped me through my period locked up inside.

Above The Horizon Mix

One of my favourite times to listen to music is after hours.

When you get back to someone’s place and the vibe is anything goes. Nice and loose. Just music.

I love when I get back down the studio in the early hours and listen to random stuff with my friends while talking shit and drinking some kind of paint stripper.

Normally that’s when the weird stuff I buy on vinyl from around the world gets some air. Just one track after another. No frills just thrills.

Been wanting to do some mixes (not mixes) like this for years. But had to wait until the world started back up again as you can’t do after hours or less there is something to be after right?

Anyway here is it is After With Dicky. All from vinyl 45s (not that I give a fuck how people play good music). 

Late night, early morning dub, blissful Brazilian, fantastic funk, cool cumbia, weird Thai shit, spangled soul, Mexican boogaloo, reggae superhero covers, crazy calypso and who knows what the fuck else.

I was honoured to be asked to do a remix of D:Ream. The parts they sent were so sublime. It was during one of those many lockdown things we don't talk about any more and it was great to work on something of such a high quality. And at the time the message in the music meant a lot to me.

The mix is dedicated to my amigo Mark Bartlett and Nuly Hassan who taught me many things about friendship and compassion during what was difficult time for me. They taught me that helping others is the best way to help yourselves and that in strangers you can sometimes find your way again. Big love to them both as they made love cool again.

Munir is an Indonesian based record digger, DJ, producer and music lover who has an ear for that something special. He has a strong feeling for the unexplored, the unearthed and a taste for journeys into new and exotic sonic spaces.

His releases on various labels including Discover Records, Razor-N-Tape, Tugboat Edits, Spacedust Records and others have led to a growing international reputation as a producer.

As a DJ, Munir also likes to move things around and keep his audience on their toes. Expect the unexpected and also expect that to change too.

We came across the wonderfully groovy, yet slightly spiritual vibes of Tuhan purely by chance - if such a thing exists. And it was love at first sound. Just a classic demonstration of all the beautiful oddness that Munir brings to the sonic table, but which at the same time seems to make absolutely perfect sense.

Dicky Trisco, a lover of international sounds and a fan of Munir’s approach, injects some more nightlife vibes into his remix, while still holding onto the firmly wonky and spiritual feel of the original.

We hope you agree that the results are a truly original sound and release. Music you don’t really know when to play, which means you should probably play it any time you want, and then play it again.

I've been busy lately working on some 100% original disco projects. The first to come out in October is a remix of my Mexican amigo Sould Out's Get The Funk track on one of my favourite imprints at the moment Hotbox.

I was fortunate enough to have the amazingly talented Robin Lee from Faze Action jam for me on this remix and it was an brilliant experience having so many parts from his jams to play with for the final mixdown.

I'm very happy with the results. Hope you like it too x

Sould Out - Get The Funk (Dicky Trisco Remix) Clip

Our versions of Tensnake's classic Holding Back (Your Love) are finally available this week on digital and vinyl on the ace Running Back Records! They are released alongside a number of other ace reworks by Prins Thomas, Tiger & Woods and other artists.

It is always a challenge to approach such a classic track like this and do it justice. But we always had this more boogie/electrofunk mix in mind for it and while sticking closely to the original we hope you can feel our own particular sound and dance floor twist on it.

I was lucky enough to spend 10 days at the wonderful Mareh festival in Bahia, Brasil over New Year. It was an amazing time spent with old friends, new friends and in my opinion some of the best DJs around. 

The festival is set in Boipeba in Bahia and the parties are thrown on boats, beaches and in the jungle by the Mareh posse who really know how to make a party tick. In my opinion it is one of the best festivals you will ever come across.

This mix is inspired by those people, those times and the music I played and heard while on the Island.

I've been locked away in the studio recently knocking out a load of new stuff as we head towards the spring and summer months of partying ahead. In particular I am looking forward to trips back to Asia, to the USA, to Electric Elephant in Croatia and out to Bali for the rest of the summer. That is my plan!

Kicking off with this remix of a killer new track by Pete Herbert on our Paradise Row imprint. I’ve played a lot of places so far this year - Sydney, Bangkok, Beijing, Singapore, London, NYC, DC, Detroit, LA, London, Paris, Madrid, Cornwall and of course Dundee amongst others. But next week I am headed to Love International Festival in Croatia and I am really excited to be playing there for the first time. 

Even better I am playing an all day session with two of my favs Ray Mang and Joutro Mundo down The Olive Grove. I’ve played with these two belters in clubs, warehouses, beach parties and boat parties over the last few years. I love their music and love playing and hanging with them. I can’t wait. The vibes will be strong. 

It will also be the last gig for a month or so as I am taking a break to do some other stuff. And it seems right to finish at Love International as it is such a crazy gathering of DJs and party people from around the world in the beautiful setting of Tisno. 

So anyway I decided to throw a mix together as I've not done one for a while that is packed full of the tunes that have done it for me so far this year (and some old ones that still do) and which weaves together special dance floor moments from all those places I have visited so far this year into something I hope will please your ears and maybe make you want to dance.

All You Need Is Love International - Dicky Trisco Mix

If you have been paying attention then you will already know that I have a wee love affair going on with Brasil. This is mainly to do with playing many times over the years at the amazing Mareh Festival. And it’s almost that time again when a bunch of loved up adventurers with stars in their eyes head towards a remote part of that great country and pay their respect to some of the best people, vibes, settings, DJs and simply the very best music around for a week celebrating love, life and all the bloody good stuff. 

Normally I would do a DJ mix after the event, but this year I am so looking forward to it that I decided to knock it out now. I also haven’t done a new DJ mix for a while as I have been coming and going, and travelling here and there so much this year. So finally I got some time in between trips and other stuff to do this one for you. 

And I can guarantee that every one of these tunes has given me the tingles over the last year. Each track takes me on a journey back to dancefloors and people in Medellin, Monterrey, NYC, Sydney, Bali, Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore, Beijing, Detroit, Paris, Madrid, Tisno, Bogota, London, Dundee and so many other places in between. I am honoured to travel to the places I go to and to get the opportunity to make people dance. If I met you and we spoke and laughed even for a moment. Perhaps we did a shot or two??? Or if we connected on a dancefloor, or a rooftop, at a festival or at a beach party…then I thank you for letting me do what I love and letting me share it with you. And I hope you felt the love too. That’s what music does. It brings people together.

It’s difficult to come up with fresh ideas in this strange cabin fever environment we all have right now. Most of the time I take my inspiration and my ideas from the people dancing in front of me. It’s easy that way and exciting. But tonight I had this thought, I remembered something all DJs and dancers know about. I remembered what it is like when you have had a long set or session through the night or day. Or perhaps for a few days at a festival. And then at a certain point you are playing or dancing and everyone who is there wants to be there. This is the place. This is the time. It maybe isn’t the best gig or moment in your career or life. But for that precious period of time it is just you and the people on the dance floor. You are together as one and as a DJ you can do what you want because you are united in the music. This is often a great time to drop the tempo and play the music you love and which has real feeling. I love those moments. I tried to capture them tonight stuck in a studio on my own. Dance With Me Episode 1 - Dicky Trisco Mix

I first met Andrew Weatherall about 15 years ago when he played for us at Autodisco in Dundee. Dave Bowie, who I ran the night with, was a good friend of his. I had to pick him up at the airport and as always he turned up looking like a maverick man of style and attitude while demanding instant hashish. Half way through the journey he said something like this ‘Barrington (I had never been called this before but immediately took to it) my nicotine habit way exceeds the length of this current journey’ and I told him he was welcome to spark up. For years afterwards my kids used to say when they smelt cigarette smoke in the car, ‘has Andrew Weatherall been in town?’.
 
Weatherall played for us many times at Autodisco and then I started doing the ALFOS nights in Dundee with him and Sean. To be honest I loved what Sean did for Andrew. I think he allowed him to play a load of non-techno music that he had been wanting to express (again) for years.
 
I remember having a real promoter moment early on at the first ALFOS night in Dundee when someone was carried out of the packed dance floor around 11.30pm…I thought shit, what’s it going to be like at 3am!!!
 
As well as doing nights together in my city we spent quite a bit of time hanging out at festivals in the summer whether on sun beds in Croatia, stone boats in North Wales, caravans in Glastonbury or wherever.
 
I have to say he was one of those guys that kind of taught you how to do things properly. How to be a good guy. How to be a good DJ. I will not forget that. You always seemed to learn things around Andrew as well as laugh your tits off.
 
Anyway I am digressing…back to the current story.
 
For years as blanket-bombing digital promotion in dance music took hold, Andrew was the only guy I knew who preferred the personal touch to emails. So I used to text or call him on the blower and send him regular CDs of our latest stuff. He liked a hard copy. The stuff I sent was from the various labels we ran over the years and sometimes just random bits and pieces we made for DJing, which I thought he might like. After all Andrew playing it really meant something.
 
I called these CDs ‘Weatherall’s Bits’ which seemed to amuse him.
 
Anyway, recently during the non-stop lockdowns I have been switching my music over from an old laptop to a new one and I came across the ‘Weatherall’s Bits’ playlists on my itunes.
 
I cried when Andrew died. I heard about it at the airport and I cried. We didn’t know each other so well. But he was really kind and considerate to me as a producer, a promoter and a fellow human being. He encouraged me and always got back to me about my tracks. And he just seemed to have a real significance as a character in the generation of producers and DJs that he led by default, charisma and good taste.
 
He also did something that very few people do these days. He would pick a track out that no one else would play and he would make it his. He would play it until people got it. I loved that.
 
Anyway faced with deleting these playlists – ‘Weatherall’s Bits’ - I decided, as I hadn’t made any tribute to Andrew, to make a mix out of them. Mainly because I realised that, as often was the case with Andrew, he made me try to be better than I was. And the tracks I sent him were probably better than the ones I played. I certainly tried to send him the good stuff. If you thought Weatherall would like it then that was a good sign. And you always knew he would pick up on stuff other people would ignore.
 
I also just wanted to remember once more and it brought back a flood of memories doing this mix.
 
So here it is. This is my tribute to a lovely, funny, creative and truly inspiring man.

Weatherall's Bits - Barrington Mix

Dicky Trisco is a DJ and music producer who lives and breathes what he does. His passion for music and desire for good times is well known. He has spent years chasing that sound and that feeling around the globe as an international DJ. For him DJing is all about people. He is addicted to the way music connects people and makes for better days. 

Dicky really broke through as a DJ and producer in the Nu Disco/Disco Revival years from around 2004. In particular, his run of DJ edit, original and remix releases alongside Balearic House hero Pete Herbert on Disco Deviance and Maxi Discs led to him becoming an increasingly in demand DJ with a busy international touring schedule. He is also rumoured to be the force behind the rather legendary Secret Squirrel vinyl only imprint. But who knows??? It’s a secret.

Since those early days, Dicky has toured constantly around Asia, Australia, Central/South America, USA, Europe and the UK sharing the music and the sound he loves. He has also become a regular at a long list of high profile festivals including the legendary Glastonbury, Electric Elephant, Mareh, Love International, Festival No 6 and many more.

Dicky is also a mainstay of the local scene in his hometown of Dundee, Scotland where he was a resident of the infamous ‘Small Town Club’ aka Reading Rooms for over a decade. At nights like Autodisco, Disco Deviance, A Night With and Non Stop, he learned his trade playing alongside many of his heroes and legendary DJs from around the world such as Andrew Weatherall, Optimo, Rahaan, Jazzie B, Horse Meat Disco, Farley Jackmaster and many more.

Dicky also ran and curated the well-respected House music label Home Taping Is Killing Music for many years putting out a run of amazing releases. Home Taping broke a number of great House artists who have gone on to become household names in the scene including The Blessed Madonna, The Revenge, Nicholas, Borrowed Identity, Eddie C & Medlar amongst others.

Dicky continues to discover, produce and remix music for a number of quality imprints including Razor-N-Tape, File Under Disco, Home Taping, Barefoot Beats, Nervous Records and many more. He has also remixed major artists such as Bryan Ferry, Belle & Sebastian, L’Impératrice, Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice), Danielle Baldelli, Faze Action, The Orielles, Golden Dawn Arkestra  and Tensnake down in his basement studio.

Most recently Dicky has been creating original music alongside NYC music machine JKriv under the name Sentimental Animals for the Razor-N-Tape imprint. Their Love Vibration EP was very well received by disc jockeys around the world and has been played by the likes of Craig Charles who made it one of his Tracks of 2021 on his BBC Radio 6 Funk & Soul show.

Dicky became a resident DJ at Pikes in Ibiza in the summer of 2023 playing in every area - poolside, terrace, Freddies, bathtub - in this legendary club. 

He also kick started a monthly radio show out of Ibiza called International Sounds on OpenLab Radio where he showcases the music he discovers, makes and plays while travelling around the globe.

As a disc jockey, DT packs a little bit of everything into his sets of International Sounds and is committed to the idea that music and club nights should be all about escapism, joy and togetherness. 

As Dicky says love and dancing is what we need.
