Frederic Chopin Nocturne cis moll

Variation 18 of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini composed in 1934. Rachmaninoff said of this piece: "This one, is for my agent." as he sensed it would become a commercial hit. It's composed by playing upside down the original melody from Paganini. The original is like a piano concerto (solo piano vs orchestra) and I'm trying to do it on a single keyboard with sampled sounds.

The theme was used in the movie Somewhere in Time in 1980 starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

The instrument is a Clavia Nord Stage 2 using a sampled Bösendorfer grand piano and sampled orchestra strings.

Somewhere In Time: Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini, Variation 18

In this little psychological drama, a brief overture is played; the curtain then goes up. A dialogue ensues, rife with questions, doubts, and 'half'' answers, amongst a cast of characters who come on and off the stage. The sun comes out at the end to resolve the conflicts(as in the only way out is OUT) This work reminds me of  Mozart's opera Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute.) Mozart is having a lot of fun as usual, playing with his audience!

Esta obra pertenece al segundo movimiento para piano n21 de Mozart,sin embargo ,Casi un siglo más tarde, Elvira Madigan (1867-1889), joven acróbata danesa, estando de gira en Suecia, conoce al conde Sixten Sparre, oficial de la armada sueca, y se enamoran. Es un amor complicado, imposible para la época, ella es una artista y él un oficial casado y con dos hijos. Tras tres años escondiendo su amor huyen a Dinamarca, pero sólo dos semanas después se quedan sin recursos y no ven otra salida que la muerte. Se les encontró muertos en el claro de un bosque; tras almorzar Sixten sacó su arma reglamentaria y mató a Elvira, luego se suicidó. 
En 1967 se rodó una película sobre esta historia:  Elvira Madigan,  y se utilizó
el segundo movimiento del concierto nº 21 de Mozart como banda sonora; desde entonces la melodía es  conocida con el nombre de Elvira Madigan.

Samuel Barber's Adagio For Strings. This is from 1936, earlier than the 60's but so much more modern, isn't it? The ultimate ambient trance-ish piece... Tried to make it sound like metallic yet organic strings, mixing Clavia's string orchestra samples with synthesizers.
