Rhadoo is one of the most important figures in Romanian minimal scene, as well as the underground scene. His DJ and production skills knows no boundaries. His style blends the old with the new, adding new elements to modern electronic music. In 2007, he founded the label [a:rpia:r] with his trusted friends Petre Inspirescu and Raresh. The label’s reputation grew rapidly worldwide and is now a solid platform for artists and music connoisseurs.

Creating worlds never seen before and the constant return to nature as the ultimate designer and source of inspiration are the prosperous obsessions shaping the artistic practice of Silviu Vișan a.k.a Dreamrec. Growing up around his artisan father who was building oversized toys for an amusement park turned into the perfect context to learn about the emotional experience of immersive environments and the secrets of morphing a place into an event. Not to mention it was the starting point for the self-thought wizard to try his hand at DIY magic either bringing joy or conjuring horror. Years later using videofeedback and layers of state-of-the-art software as tools to explore the unusual time&space where computers become genuinely unpredictable and the output becomes a fluid stream of pareidolia, Dreamrec is channeling in international festivals, clubs and art spaces his own visual aesthetic: immersive, mesmerizing and fictional as if visitors / partygoers physically stepped into another dimension. Video performances, interventions and large scale mapping, collaborative installations at V&A Museum, London (UK), Biennial of Young artists, Bucharest (RO), “Decenter Armory at Abrons Arts Center, NY ( USA), art & music festivals and clubs: Rokolectiv Festival, Bucharest (RO), TodaysArt Festival Hague (NL), ICAS Suite by Club Transmediale, Berlin (DE), Periferias Festival, Huesca (ES), Simultan Festival, Timisoara (RO), EasternDaze Night, Zilina (SK), Crack Festival, Rome (IT), Insomnia Festival, Tromso (NO), Arma17, Moscow (RU), Liquidroom Tokyo (JP) , Fabric, London (UK) etc. Among Dreamrec’s long-term collaborations we would mention the ones with RPR Soundystem of the acclaimed RO-minimal music label [a:rpia:r] and with experimental musician working under Rochite and Sillyconductor monikers.

As CASCADE headhonchos, we decided it felt only right to kick off the mixing series with a recording of our own. Going by the name of Currents, we set the staple sound for CASCADE. 

With this signature mix, we dive deep into dubby soundscapes, weighty basslines and hi-hat driven patterns. The first hour is built patiently, focused on depth and atmosphere while the groove slowly locks in. Tension builds as we approach the second hour, in which we let loose and introduce some more straight to the point house grooves.

No-nonsense house music.

The DJ set I played at the Birdcage party at Filmcafé Utrecht. 
A deep and ambient start, followed by some downtempo and wavey techno, slowling evolving into deep, broken beats. All of this is filled with quite some acid and numerous bleeps and bloops. 
I put this all together in a 1 hour slot, and played it in the range of 118-120BPM. Way more downtempo than usual so I was a bit nervous at start but in the end it all came out very nice. Enjoy!
