Bluesberry

Color Me

I wrote this song while biking through Europe this summer on the Martin Backpacker guitar I had strapped to the rear rack for all 1200 miles of the 7 week trip. (http://www.diegovf.com/2012/01/oisau-my-martin-backpacker.html)

I was trying to use big interval leaps and think mixolydian while writing it. The title is slightly deceitful, because I believe I was actually in Marseille in the south of France, not in Lyon, France (although I did go there as well.)

Lyon

This is a song I wrote while drinking one Shipyard Pumkinhead Ale and eating olives. I played the bass and both the electric and acoustic guitars, as well as programmed the drums.

Drinking One

I wrote this on my Martin Backpacker while sitting on a balcony in Luxembourg this summer while on a bicycle trip from Amsterdam to Barcelona. The word, "Fietspad," means "bicycle path" in Dutch, which means I kept seeing signs with the word on it as I pedaled the 1,200 mile trip. 

I was specifically thinking about the cyclical motion of the wheels on my bike when writing the melody for this. I would say the effect comes off as a rising and falling spiral of notes. It was inspired by the hot air and cool demeanor of Luxembourg on the day that I wrote it, as well as the beautiful landscapes of the Netherlands and Belgium.

For rehearsing purposes, and it actually sounds pretty funky like this because of how hard the other two instruments hit in the 12/8 feel. Dig it yo.


Drinking (no drums)

Melody in the chorus is inspired by the trains in France that have a woman who announces arrivals and departures. Before every announcement, they play a clip of a female singing this 4 note lick, and it stuck in my head so much that I evolved an entire song around it.


I had some drinks, uploaded this! Would love some collaborators to help me with the vocals and synths. Everything is created and layered up by me.

More Bon Jovi-esque wobble synth on this version. Overall, more melodic and more rhythmically intricate, an overall improvement in my eyes.
