SCALEZ - Start The Funk

As mentioned previously, one of the aims of this years xmas album is to make use of some aliases I haven't used all that much either recently or in general. Much like The Twisted Kerchiefs, Rigor Motions- tha alias I use for Drum & Bass and Jungle and adjacent subgenres- mostly got wheeled out for xmas albums, and that's a bit of a shame as I quite like working with the genres. I do know why, though- I got badly burnt out on Drum & Bass and Jungle, both listening to it and making it, for a long time as consequence of a former aquaintance constantly sending me tunes in those genres to check out- it was exhausting.

That's why I'm pleased that coming back to make this felt like putting on a comfortable pair of socks. Whilst I did struggle a little bit with the middle section (both generally what to do with it + getting the synth solo to work with the unconventional chords), for the most part getting this together went very smoothly. I put part of that down to having a very strong concept for what I wanted the song to evoke; a late night drive down a motorway, snow piled high on the surrounding fields and forests and still falling from the sky. My extended family has always taken turns on hosting Christmas, and one arm of the family lives in Bedfordshire, which even when I lived in St. Albans was about an hours drive away; I've got a lot of fond memories of the long drive home, in the dead of night, cruising along the motorways in air cold enough to freeze your breath, so I was trying to capture that feeling.
