I’m happy to announce the first volume what I’ve dubbed the ‘XRchives’ series. A careful selection of music my archives that (in my opinion) withstood the test of time. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Extinction Rebillion aka XR. You see what I did there? ;-)

It seemed like a waste to never share this tunes, so it’s a form of recycling if you think of it. And from a selfish standpoint it helps me with my feelings of guilt and powerlessness to try and help people who are way more courageous then me in their noble fight to save us from extinction.

Propulsive techno solicitations are abounding on Ideoma, the debut EP from Oscean, a collaboration from Sebastián Galante, also known as Seph, and Andrés Zacco. The two are figureheads of Argentina's techno sound, with releases on labels such as Insurgentes, Echocord Colour and Illian Tape over the last decade.

Galante and Zacco join forces for the first time with inspiring effects, moving forward with vast paces, unshifting footsteps, with uneven prisms of electronic rhythm. Its direct intent and crisp sonic detail conjure a cinematic and nocturnal drive, unearthing subterranean pulses that leave all in its wake.

With Ideoma, Tresor Records presents a whirlwind of dense movement and cosmic energy that twists on percussive bends and distorting spirits. Spiral recalls natural phenomena, bound tight, with a rugged texture like no other, as flickers of sound processing suggest lift-off. The flanging Feral exudes a potent demeanour, wicked and unceasing. The ebbing melodics of Spacion hark back to 90s ambient techno and yet possessing a rhythmic cut and thrust that navigates unchartered terrain. Transmuting beyond planet earth, further into the extra-terrestrial, Galante and Zacco mask fractal brushstrokes with hurrying rhythms. They smear primitive and sharp sonics, pressed with dizzying resilience. The nosediving FM synths of Austraal beckon a haunting trip, cloaked in a trance of motion and forever eschewing all prediction.

A name familiar to Hidden Recordings, France based JC Laurent returns for the fourth time with Distressed World. As with each release, expectations are high and the young Frenchman impresses with his latest body of work. He delivers three original tracks inspired by the current state of global affairs: underlying tension, shi]s in mood with the need for a steady hand. JC’s profile continues to rise as well with his newly minted DJ residency at Kwartz Club in Nice, France. Over the course of his nights there, Entitled ‘JC Laurent Invites’ he has shared the stage with artists such as Jay Clarke, Ryan James Ford, Shlomo, AWB, Adriana Lopez, Oliver Deutschmann and Deepak Sharma. 

 

Accompanying the release on remix duty is Berlin’s Oliver Deutschmann, well-respected for his diverse track selections and varied soundscape, his recent discography includes a 2018 release on Luke Slater’s imprint, Mote Evolver. Showcasing his broad palate of sound, he is only a handful of talents who has DJ’d both Berghain and Panorama Bar over the last 10 years. Side A begins with ‘Distressed World’, a heavy stepper driven by eerie soundscapes, so] and subtle shi]s of stormy atmosphere that expresses today’s desolation. The Oliver Deutschmann Redub is upbeat with slick drum programming and flow, expressing a palpable sense of urgency. 

 

Side B starts with ‘The Red Wire’, hypnotic sounds and smooth percussion are anchored by a continuous low-end flow. ‘Breakthrough’ warms things up with pad overtones, and carries a more jacking percussive feel.
