Live after Roland is a 7 track album produced by Maurice Anthony Moran and released independently via Bandcamp.

The album aims to highlight and tackle existing genre conventions within electro and close sub-genres, most notably the use of vintage drum machines.

A wide variety of styles and drum timbres are present throughout the album to further showcase ways in which conventions can be broken.

From a technical perspective, Maurice chose to utilize less orthodox means of drum synthesis from Max/MSP to Physical Modelling.

Retro, the fifth track of the album, is a bass-heavy cross of electro and IDM, with a heavy focus on realistic percussive elements, produced using primarily physical modelling synthesis.

From chuggy dancehall rhythm and energetic breaks, to intricate, atmospheric techno, electro and grime, these fifteen broken-beat builders take us on on a journey through crafted cadence and dynamic metronomy.
Wanting to give back to the city we live in and one that inspires so much creativity in those fortunate enough to access opportunity, all proceeds from PDCOMP001 will go to Caring in Bristol, a homeless charity providing services and shelter for those most in need.

New Wave Podcast 024: Dufraine

Although born in Guildford and now residing in Newcastle, Dufraine's music truly belongs in the depths of outer space, with his music offering the ultimate escapism from reality both physically and mentally. Along with many up and coming producers he has been able to rejuvenate the electro scene while paying homage to the early Detroit sounds, leading the genre through a healthy and exciting new period. 

Over the past few years, Dufraine has embedded himself in the Newcastle scene with his forward thinking but ever popular bookings for event Quest 808 - which he co-runs. He continues to work and collaborate with the cities other projects, showcasing his vast knowledge behind the decks, with live equipment and events management.

His production, which is fastly gaining recognition, is an accumulation of various knowledge gained from years of clubbing experiences and research. He admits that when first clubbing, he wasn't hearing and finding music that he could relate to, however once discovering the sounds from Detroit he has never looked back.  With features on Planetaria Soundsystem and Abu Recording VAs and forthcoming EP on Ape-X Records, Dufraine is building the perfect platform for success. 

We recently caught up with Andy to discuss his process when creating a track, if he is musically trained, the importance of having a mate to bounce ideas off when producing and the struggles of being a promoter.

f we could describe LUZ1E's music with one word, it would certainly be "eclectic". Having drawn influence from her brother's collection of Chicago and New York House, the Frankfurt-born producer has learnt to manifest her learnings into a fresh take on the seminal sound. Following her success on labels such as Lobster Theremin, Shall Not Fade, Goddess Music, we are very excited to present her four track EP for VOITAX - Radical Optimism. The opener "Transition" lays down LUZ1E's law, featuring headstrong drum work, matched with equally menacing bass arpeggios. If the theme of apocalypticism wasn't obvious enough from the opening track's looming pads, it will become apparent with "Electronic Warfare". Served up on electro's trustworthy chassis, we watch the distorted arpeggios unfold as the tension of the pads guide us to an dystopian finale. On the flip, the title track "Radical Optimism" uses shrill pad pressure to break the track's dreamy opening sequence - as the modulating bass provides plenty of frequencies for the dance floor. The closing track, "Emotional Intelligence" provides a candid looking glass into the producer's musical influences. LUZ1E's knack for emotive pads furnish the track's uplifting structure with class, as breaks and bass deliver us to a tender climax.
