INTERVIEW:

TOOLROOM RECORDS: How did you get involved with Toolroom?
PETE GRIFFITHS: I actually started working with the guys in the early days of Toolroom back in 2004, helping out with graphic design work in exchange for promos! I already knew some of the guys as friends and was working nearby as a designer and promoter for a local nightclub so used to pop up to the tool shed after work and hassle them for new music. As the label started to take shape they offered me a full time position to get involved and I jumped at the chance!

TR: What’s been you favourite release of your own on Toolroom?
PG: Its hard to say as my first release 'Speak The Secret' on the label was a very proud moment for me; it culminated years of studio time learning the craft and was my first time working with a vocalist. But I think the track I made with Ant Brooks 'Filtered' is probably my favourite, as it charted so well, reaching No.6 on the overall Beatport Top 100, and was the first record I really noticed people recognising and asking for when I was DJing. 

TR: What’s been your highlight of 2013 so far?
PG: Wow another tough question! It wasn't the best start for me personally, but things have really turned around. Musically, I finally found time to finish some productions, including a new collaboration with Cevin Fisher and a remix for Doorly's summer anthem 'Rush', which are both getting amazing reactions on the dance floor. This summer has been crazy busy at Toolroom HQ with our Tenth Anniversary campaign running full steam, our Ibiza residency and some big festival shows. I've also really enjoyed spending more time with my family, trying to get the balance right between work and family isn't easy when this industry is never a straight 9-5! All in all it’s turning out to be a great year!

TR: What do you enjoy most about playing at Ministry of Sound?
PG: You often read similar answers from other DJs who have played there, but it’s that same magic that will never change. I had been going to Ministry of Sound as a clubber for many years before I ever got to play there. It literally has THE best set up and sound system in the world; everything about it is just right. When you’re DJing and the Box is full, you become one of the clubbers; it has one of the best atmospheres and you get a real sense of the heritage when you play there. We have a great relationship with all the team at Ministry and have been putting on Toolroom Knights events from the beginning, so it has a real sense of home as well.

TR: What can we expect from your set at Ministry of Sound?
PG: Well on Saturday I will be opening the 103 before Prince Club so I will be the one setting the tone from the start. It’s often one of the toughest sets, as you don’t want to go too crazy right at the beginning, even though its full of eager clubbers raring to go. But, you can expect an uplifting set full of deep and jacking grooves, some Toolroom exclusives, and of course a few of my own productions and special re edits.
