My 5 hours set recorded live @ La Marquise boat in Lyon on October 11th. Different things played from Soul to Brazil, through Disco, edits, Modern Soul etc. All vinyl, some classics, some rare ones.

Not an easy night, Booth far from the dancefloor so a bit difficult to feel the crowd, plus a tricky turntable, shit 'Rihanna' requests while I blend records... But it was fun enough at the end of the day :)

AXEL H & CAO BRAVO presents: El Mundo de Quilca

Peru, a country with a rich geographic and cultural diversity, is mostly known to the international music community as the epicenter of cumbia and its psychedelic variants. Unknown to most, a handful of groups have experimented with sounds related to disco and synth-pop in the 80s that were unpopular at the time and thus have mostly been forgotten over the years. 

@axelhaxel (@kitchensessions_int), an epidemiologist and collector residing in Lima, has spent the last 6 years digging records in Quilca, a small and dusty gallery in the center of Lima with improvised vinyl stalls, as well as sourcing records from elsewhere across Peru.

Sharing a common interest to explore Peruvian "Disco" output, Axel has teamed up with @caobravo, a surgeon and well-respected record collector across Latin America, to record “El Mundo de Quilca” a vinyl-only mix of neglected and often impossible-to-find Peruvian disco gems, exploring a variety of different styles, moods, and energy levels. 

Some of the tracks in this mix will be featured in an upcoming compilation to be released in early 2023 on @buhrecords, a Peruvian label run and curated by Luis Alvarado, who has provided valuable insights into this mix.

Peruvian Disco Outsiders / AXEL H & CAO BRAVO : El Mundo de Quilca

Although she was raised in New York City, it feels as if Katie Schecter time traveled here from a chicer, more sonically cool yesteryear of the future. Now based in Nashville, she effortlessly blends the half-cool, half-kitsch of Music City that is neither new, nor timeless; she herself is it all.Schecter’s journey as a solo artist began with a self-titled EP in 2017, followed by her second full-length release Bad For Business in 2020, solidifying her place on the map as a boundary-pushing musician. Along with her creative soulmate Nick Bockrath, Schecter joined forces with British producer and engineer Ben Baptie to fully capture her idealized sound. Bad For Business features Amy Winehouse’s legendary rhythm section, Homer Steinweiss (Holy Hive, Sharon Jones & The Dap-kings) and Nick Movshon (The Arcs, Menahan Street Band), a heavy combination that informs the record’s soulful core temperature. In 2025, she has plans in motion for her third LP to be released.
