Berlin-based producer, composer and instrumentalist Leon Pock, formerly known as beatmensch5000, introduces his new project ODYLE. ‘Brain Fog’ is the fourth single. 

ODYLE’s upcoming debut EP ‘18 Months Of(f)’ (29.11.24) was crafted during the challenging years of 2022-2023, a period marked by significant personal obstacles. After contracting COVID-19, he faced a prolonged battle with Long COVID (ME/CFS), which severely impacted his daily life and creative process. Despite enduring persistent fatigue, ODYLE continued to create music, albeit with great difficulty. The experience demanded perseverance, patience, and resilience, which ultimately shaped the EP's thematic superstructure and creative journey. The ambivalence of time—both its slow, arduous passage during recovery and its relentless, fleeting nature—became a central theme in the music. 

Particularly influential for his first solo project is the live jazz and hip-hop format Black Bear Basement (sax, keys, vibraphone/perc, turntables), which he founded in 2016 and with which, in addition to a sold-out tour, he was also represented at several established festivals. The band's sound concept, in which sophisticated production skills and the organic timbre of the four instruments result in fully developed beat compositions, also forms ODYLE's unique body of sound.

The EP also showcases the talents of R&B singer DALEE and newcomer fraen as well as award-winning jazz saxophonist Phillip Dornbusch and bassist Viktor Velinov, both key figures in Berlin's flourishing jazz and new soul scene.

Leon Pock has been a pivotal figure in Berlin's music scene for several years, contributing as a producer, composer, and songwriter across both German and English-speaking circles. As a pianist and musical director, he has toured extensively throughout Germany and Europe. Under his former alias beatmensch5000, Leon has released multiple albums and numerous singles, collaborating with a diverse array of artists.

This album was a partial endeavour into all branches of trip hop, spanning all of the eras of music. I said in my Hidden Gems Vol.I EP that i would make a jazz EP, but it proved more difficult that once thought! It still happening though; I've just got to get my music theory up to par. I think there also might be a return to Drum & Bass/Electronic genres, in the form two/three different EP's.

In the one year period since the release of Hidden Gems Vol.I, I have also been learning Ableton as well, which has been interesting (Primarily used to be FL only). I think looking at workflow and attempting to refine it is a must for any artist. It brought me to the realization of just how much workflow affects the sound of the output you create. Trying to refine a process while still retaining the exact same sound is a difficult process! :P

The concept behind the EP is multi faceted. Everything from the cover to the names to the audio content inside the tracks themselves tells a story. I've used a lot of layering inside the tracks and have really tried to provide emphasis and tension where i felt necessary to create amazing moments in a track.
