It's now 19 years since my original Trance & Bass mix first came out - as a special Mix CD on the cover of Mixmag Magazine. It was definitely an important moment in my career & exposed what I do & how I play to a bigger audience, and also I think a really cool snapshot of what was a really exciting time in DNB, that any of us that are still around will look back on fondly. Big thank you to everyone at Mixmag who helped push the idea of this CD and thought of inviting me to do it, all those years ago!

I've been streaming live DJ sets & working hard on my visuals and general Twitch stuff for over a year now, to get through the 'situation', to the point were we've got over 8000 followers in the 'Loft Crew' (I broadcast these from my loft, as was very obvious in the early days with the strange triangular greenscreen behind me, the shape dictated by the low ceiling and shape of the roof!). 

The computer I use for the streaming is now at its absolute limit of what it can handle so there was a bit of lagging tonight - not up to my usual standard, hopefully the music shines through regardless. I've got a new PC on the way (and looming mammoth credit card bill as a result lol) to use up there, so the resolution/frame rate etc will be back up to 10/10 shortly!

The plan for this set was to revisit the original tracklist and then continue playing tracks along the same lines, some from the same era in the early 2000s that would have fitted in well back then, alongside more recent stuff, all sticking with that 'Trance & Bass' brief.

Huge shout out to all the producers making incredible DNB to this day, whatever the subgenre, and to the guys at the forefront of the Trance & Bass sound back then, and those still pushing it today.

Also a HUGE thank you to everyone that regularly tunes in to my livestreams on Twitch (AKA the #loftcrew), takes part in the community, those that support me with 'subs' and 'bits' tips/donations - it really helps keep me going, both mentally, and financially. You guys really are the best. Thank you.

His reflection delicately distorts as he stares into the slow, flowing river and battles his internal fixation on vengeance. The rage elevates with every breath he inhales and his future path is mentally mapped. He screams “The heinous beings that slaughtered my blood will be butchered by this blade and thou shall have no mercy!” his voice echoing around the wood. He mounts his jet black stallion and rides off toward the horizon, ready to gamble his fate. 



The huge, wooden doors of the throne room explode open and the warrior charges toward the king like a projectile from a trebuchet. The king's guards are  immediately on his defence as swords clash and sparks fly. The widowed warrior reaches breaking point and precisely plunges his steel, inches above the brass breastplate and into the throat of the first attacker. Dexterously and expertly repeating the slay for the second and third defender, the only Achilles heel of the impenetrable armour plate.

The majestic throne room becomes silent after the final fatality slumps to the ground.

The seething warrior, slowly walks over to the king who cowers behind his cathedra.

. He hauls his shaken body back into the royal chair and holds his cold, blood saturated steel against his quivering throat….

The sky was different that night. Though clear and cloudless, full of many stars that shone with luminous intensity, something was missing. It was as though someone had cloven the galaxies in twain, sundering the universal whole into two eerily separate pieces. The warrior Orion had been struck down, and elsewhere in the night the two dippers leaked inky darkness from within their ever full cups. The roar of leo rang out silent, libra’s scales were detached, and gemini bore forth not twins into the universe but rather two distinct entities tied not to each other. On the planet below, great seers and sages scrambled to make sense of this portentous occurrence, beseeching their gods and consulting their oracles with an urgency in the face of a fate that came unknown to their doors.

For there beneath the sundered sky arose creatures of myth and legend, horrors conjured forth from the terrors of sleep and raised from the sacred graves where honored dead had safely lain. The souls of some few living departed their bodies, wandering aimlessly about as phantoms in their own world, peering forth through a shrouded and ethereal veil into the rooms in which their bodies and those they loved still slept. Above, the void that sliced the sky called softly, beckoning to its levied host to walk the world in the absence of the living. Theirs was an existence of horror, condemned to shadow and storied tales that existed not under light of sun nor star. Yet here, amidst the watchful blindness of their ominous controller, they had been graced with darkness amidst which they could be born. For this was the night of fears, when the terror of the mind stood alongside the body that had made it. In creeping darkness, under sundered sky, this was the night of the BLACK STREAK.

SMOOTH returns to Eatbrain with a momentous single release, BLACK STREAK. Rallying the monstrous menagerie of the EATBRAIN horde with the frantic tonalities of its twin tracks, BLACK STREAK & ROUGHER, SMOOTH injects his hyperenergetic sonic sequences into the ears of the horrendous horde, propelling them further under the darkness of the BLACK STREAK.
