Roku opens the summer season by welcoming Andre Moret to the label for his debut EP. As one of Brazil's most highly regarded progressive house artists, Andre Moret has achieved many successes across his seven year career. World class DJs Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have been regular supporters, while his inimitable productions have found a home on Mango Alley, Plattenbank, The Soundgarden and Warung Recordings, amongst others. Also an accomplished DJ, the Campinas resident has taken his impeccable taste and smooth programming skills around the world, performing in Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay, while also being a fixture of Brazil’s vibrant nightlife, through his highly regarded gigs at D.EDGE, Club 88, Clash Club, Gate22 and more. Now, fresh off a well-received EP for Clubsonica, Andre adds roku to his resume with a two-track showcase entitled ‘Mind Guides’. 

Beginning with ‘Mind Guides’, Andre showcases a groovy hypnotic approach which sets the tone for the EP. Full of alluring textures and fresh design qualities, the Brazilian talent expertly blends warm kick drums and voluptuous grooves, with rolling rhythms, haunted vocal choirs and wavy arpeggiated sequences, for a captivating path into the break. Further revealing his creative attitude across the interlude, it’s a short but tense build which emerges to reveal submerged chord stabs and a powerful drop, before vocal narrative returns for an engaging finale. 

The companion piece ‘Night of Falling Lights’ lands with a decidedly deeper approach, as Andre flexes his rhythmic acumen across the seven minute piece. Rolling basslines provide the anchor for glowing synth phrasing and spirited sonics to highlight a dreamy top line, continually evolving across the main break, as modulation peaks and the groove re-engages to create a club energy that is both stirring and confident.

Makossa & Megablast - Kunuaka Remixes Part 1

To mark the 15th anniversary of Makossa & Megablast’s seminal Kunuaka release. Stripped Down have enlisted modern greats Reboot, Sobek and Claudio Ricci to reinterpret key tracks.

Kunuaka was an all-time classic album on G-Stone Recordings that fused dub, house and electro across two slabs of vinyl. It took you on a real trip through many different sounds and styles and two originals are included here next to the remixes, which will be followed later in 2019 by a second remix package.

First to go is Reboot, a long-time advocate of stripped down grooves on labels like Cadenza and Get Physical. His eight-minute masterpiece is a warm, underlapping house cut with sub bass and loose synths getting under your skin.

Moblack and Monaberry artist Sobek goes for something superbly slow burning, layering up the poignant synths and drums into something that is poised and grandiose.

Next up, Ibizan based label boss Claudio Ricci is in fine form as he reworks ‘Galaxy 82’ into an upbeat bit of classy techno with serene Detroit pad work and thoughtful keys taking you into the future.

Last of all come the two still vital originals. ‘Like A Rocket’ feat. Capitol A is groovy, late night house with rapped vocals and a musical bassline that wriggles its way into your affections, and ‘Galaxy 82’ is a wonderfully woozy adventure through the cosmos with spacey pads and floating grooves.

This is a fantastic package that mixes the old with the new and turns out great results.
