Hot rain spat down outside as I entered. Pouring out of unlicensed speakers filthy music enveloped wasted bodies swaying to illegal sound, faces materialising in the gloom engaged in escapement through noisy transcendence. Youthful idealism unbroken by the tyrant of passing time. Precipitating from broken ventilators and exposed electrics sweat filtered down on the lost and the delusional. Toward the bar I moved through the crowd, bright vending machines discharging narcissistic slogans, '...this will demonstrate your merit, you can show it to all your friends'. The resident MarketingExec® strode up beside me, never one to miss a trick, teeth flashing his clothing fluidly shifting styles as he estimated the measure of my own particular niche: cultural empathy, the greatest sales method ever. "Try a Starbuck®, shitwhip a few of these badboys and you'll be in seventh heaven”. Did I really look that bad? "I got tired of oblivion I found it a distraction to real life”. "Real life?" he chuckled. The delivery changed, I moved up a demographic segment or two. "There is no real life, only what we create and what you buy, that’s it. We sell you the means to define yourselves, like the brands on this great selection of drinks. Nothing else exists.” Philosopher salesmen, “you finished paying off that suit yet?” I smirked. "I finished paying for the money I bought to buy it", he responded as if that was perfectly legitimate. I guess it was these days. “You're doomed” I stated. “We're all doomed, we're dancing at the end of the world. Give the Vendor® 50 dollars and I'll make sure you get two drinks”. There was literally nowhere left to escape the Sales Teams, they were the spine on which everything else hung now, even down here, the After-Modern ecclesiasticals. At this point the club doors exploded inward, smoke, noise, heat and light ram-raided my senses. I tasted blood in my mouth. Amicable Management® streamed in snub nosed sub-machine gun muzzles shoved in faces, armoured fists popping noses, boots stamping down on delicate wrists and bony ankles. They were sweeping for migrants, checking for unlicensed buying. We all fell down. Except the Executive, he strode over through the smoke arms held out like some warped Jesus Christ, offering free drinks. Amicable Management® were wearing his logos anyway.
 
Knuckle deep in the Belgian new-beat and experimental scene Maoupa Mazzocchetti presents here a wealth of sonic imagery, collections of sound scavenged from yesteryears including 80s UK industrial and punk, Belgian New Wave, noise and experimental. Obscure records from beyond the void. Contextualised with contemporary re-imaginings from across Europe and the United States: re-represented and re-arranged to create audible future-punk history. Jagged analogue jams evoking dystopian almost-realities. Delighting in noise and harsh acoustics Mazocchetti’s first E.P. ‘A-Tranquility’ a four track cassette, was released via Unknown Precept in 2014, further releases have followed on Unknown Precept and PRR! with much more to come. Get involved it’s a crazy ride.

IDO returns with the second chapter of Transcendental Movements – a series dedicated to active meditation and deep listening. Active meditation is a practice of fully inhabiting the movement of sound. Instead of seeking absolute silence, it invites you to dive into textures, to be carried by frequencies, to follow oscillations like a breath. Every vibration becomes an anchor point, every resonance a gateway inward. In a world saturated with noise and anxiety, this approach offers a space to refocus the body and calm the mind. Here, listening is not passive: it’s an awakened trance where tensions shift and dissolve, leaving only a pure sense of presence.

For this second volume, Valentino Mora has gathered a new ensemble of artists exploring the frontier between intimate perception and sonic landscape. The compositions – slow and organic – unfold like micro-universes, at times ethereal, at times dense, designed to guide the listener on a sensory journey that transforms anxiety into movement, and movement into inner peace. Transcendental Movements Vol. 2 is an invitation to listen differently: not to escape, but to return to yourself.

Detroit’s Craig Gonzalez was drawn to vinyl from a young age, captivated by hip hop and the underground party scene of the 1990s. This fascination quickly evolved into a lifelong passion for DJing, driven by a desire to weave rhythmic layers into compelling, personal stories. 

A self-taught artist, Gonzalez’s collection spans the rich musical evolution of Detroit, including techno, house, hip hop, funk, dnb, and a diverse range of other genres. His skills were further honed during his residency at Solar in Ann Arbor, where he shared the decks with renowned artists. Gonzalez has also been a frequent fixture at Movement and other major local events, where he’s shared the stage with legends in the electronic music scene. Since 2022, he has been a resident DJ for the Third Thursday monthly event by Paxahau, further cementing his presence in Detroit’s vibrant nightlife scene. 

Deeply influenced by the musical depth of Detroit and the hypnotic craft of global artists, Gonzalez’s style reflects a rich, interconnected network of like-minded creators. His connection to family, history, and the culture surrounding electronic music gives his sets a profound sensibility, effortlessly translating onto the dance floor.

D-grade sees off Saturday and the Robotic Sounds takeover with a headsy mix of illbient, downtempo dub-tek and general washy leftfieldism. It's a slow-paced but well evolved and  entrancing pool of naturalist sonics and spacey atmospheres. Features bits from Mistareez, Sciama, and Klofink to name a few.

Today’s Deep Mind Music entry is a trip through the depths of the earth from Shoal 🌘🌙

Listening to this set I was transported into another realm of being, taken by the hand through the mists of time, into the molten core of the earth. A transmission from the collective unconsciousness of mankind, sinking into the faded memories of our ancestors. Megalithic drones contrast with intricate moments of delicate celestial harmony, as iridescent shimmers of light glint into a shadowed cave. As the mix concludes, we softly re-emerge, floating on a blanket of rainbow-hued clouds ✨🤍

This mix is a live set made entirely of music composed by Shoal, formed from a series of recordings. It features field recordings captured in Japan, as well as a jam session with flute (Urosh), contrabass (Julian Tjon Sack Kie), and sound exploring a tam-tam gong, all collaged together. Thank you Shoal for this moving and evocative journey taking listeners through the primordial beyond 🌌💠🌀
