His eclectic selections conjure pitched down cosmic journeys to distant stars, descents into the depths of the ocean and lush, tropical jungles full of chirping insects and mysterious animals. With a vast collection of rarities, including choice folk, kosmische and prog rock, André’s firmly plugged into the world of contemporary electronica. Infectious, introspective and cinematic, his sound oscillates between psychedelic trips, experimental disco and voodoo percussions, exploring the slowed-down heartbeat of danceable music.

RIOCAST11 Philipp Otterbach - ..Is A Little Bit Disturbed By The Silence Here

"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”, one well-known writer once said. And for the new Birds entry, I welcome @philipp-otterbach, long-time record collector of all kinds of music, DJ and producer, who would approve his words. For a long while he devotes himself with endurance to music. During the 2000s, he threw some forward-looking dances with his old buddy Vladimir Ivkovic in the German Ruhr region. And when Düsseldorf’s shrine for outer-national grooves Salon Des Amateurs opened in 2004, Otterbach became a one of the first residents. Since 2014 he is also out there with his very own sound, releasing EPs on labels like adventurous Dutch Knekelhuis, Themes for Great Cities, Brokntoys etc. In 2020 he dropped his debut album 'Everything Else Matters' on R.I.O.  followed by "The Dahlem Diaries" on Music From Memory Nowadays (2023) and "Correct me if I am incorrectly you" on Offen (2023). Listening to one of Philipp's DJ sets is like shuffling through an imaginary library. His musical language follows an intertwined logic of emotional affects, ineffable magic and endless fantasy. A man for suspenseful storytelling that likes to melt early electronic music, Krautrock, minimalism, and all sorts of tribal rhythms with eclectic voodoo dance, psychedelic guitar tsunami’s, house, techno and electro - always beautifully entangled with a precise feeling for special funk dynamics. This one is another great example of these antics too. Let the mind fly with the birds!

Laurent Richard is a Parisian visual artist, record collector and selector under the name of DJ Sundae. Having been immersed in the skateboarding scene since his own early days, Laurent evidently knows his way around niche subcultures, music, outsider art and all things expressive, treasuring obscurities through his current record label Idle Press. DJ Sundae has also been the person behind “No Weapon Is Absolute” on NTS Radio with Cosmo Vitelli, the curator behind a few stellar records, the runner of what was Hollie Records, an ace behind the club decks and much more, all detailed further in our interview.
