Sinus Interludes

First single from the album "Damien est vivant" (Release: Mar 29).

In the wake of a profound loss, Marie Klock, a neo-chanson singer and multi-instrumentalist from Paris, presents a poignant tribute with her debut on Pingipung. On “Damien est vivant” Marie Klock pays homage to the poet Damien Schultz, who has recently passed. They were intertwined both in artistic collaboration and deep friendship. 

Marie Klock creates a powerful ode to Damien Schultz's surreal, anarchic, witty and at times provocatively obscene French (English translations are included in the vinyl release). The poet's own voice resounds alongside Klock's, oscillating between spoken word and neo-folk vocals. Recorded in an intimate lo-fi setting with co-producer Julien Louvet, the 10 songs are far from a mournful requiem. They showcase idiosyncratic pop music brimming with humour and absurdity. “Damien est vivant” is a celebration of the unique bond they shared, in past and present. The melancholy sometimes takes on an almost whimsical quality, an allusion to the world as perceived through the lens of two kindred spirits. 

Marie Klock has appeared as keyboardist on international stages with Sofia Portanet and collaborated with artists such as Jean-Louis Costes, Chilly Gonzales, Charlotte Brandi and Adrienne Pauly. Her self-titled solo LP (2020, Les Disques De La Face Cachée) was a cheeky outing of her synth-chanson act. She is currently working on a duo album with Anadol, to be released on Pingipung in autumn 2024.

 “Damien est vivant” will be released on Good Friday 2024. Marie Klock will present the album in live ceremonies.

Taken from Dmitry's forthcoming 'Comprehension Of Light' album, which will be released on FatCat's 130701 imprint on October 6th.

The stunning ‘Comprehension Of Light’ marks a sizeable step forward for Dmitry. A must-hear for fans of fellow 130701 alumni Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka, the LP is Dmitry’s first ever vinyl release and is a wonderfully conceived and realised work. Where ‘Collage’ was heavily augmented with an expansive use of electronics and virtual instrumentation, the new album sees Dmitry upgrade to real strings / orchestral instrumentation with a more limited use of software. ISKRA String Quartet (The XX, Radiohead, Jóhann Jóhannsson) contributed strings. Other contributors include William Yates (Memotone), Abul Mogard and Benoit Pîoulard. It was mixed by Addi 800 (Ólafur Arnalds) and mastered by Martyn Heyne (Nils Frahm, Peter Broderick, The National and others).

In places recalling Jóhann Jóhannsson and Hauschka, in others the work of Leyland Kirby / The Caretaker, or Eduard Artemiev's score for Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker’, 'Comprehension' is a stunning album which traces a redemptive narrative arc and bears witness to a rising young talent in the field of modern composition.

A new track, recently released on volume 8 of Neo Ouija's long running compilation series Cottage Industries.  I've been a fan of Neo and label runner Lee since the early 00's and their forum in particular was very encouraging of my early efforts. 

It's a privilege to finally release something with them.

Notstand auf der Apollo 12. Die Vorräte neigen sich dem Ende. In der Vorratskammer herrscht gähnende Leere. Aber zum Glück hat eine Pappnase 384 Packungen Toilettenpapier gehamstert, welche sich nun an Deck türmen und die Legonostalgier unter der Besatzung dazu anspornen sich im allseits beliebten Spiel "Wer baut das krasseste Toilettenpapiercastle" zu übertrumpfen. 
Doch keine Panik auf der Titanic. Die Rettung naht. Fernab unserer Misere schlemmt Daensen genüßlich eine Durian. Da leuchtet sein sanitärer Plattenkoffer auf. SOS, die Tarabcrew ruft nach Hilfe. Schnurrstracks springt er auf. Mixt eine prall gefüllte Kiste seiner Lieblingsfrucht mit seinem abgespaceten, exotischen Sound und katapultiert sie in den Kosmos. Beatgesteuert hat sie nur ein Ziel. Rette die Apollo 12.

Cinematic electronica's chief complainer.  Andy Dobson has been recording as Digitonal since the late 90s.  Part of the late phase of UK melodic electronica, he came to prominence on the seminal Toytronic Records label with a track on the Neurokinetic compilation and a debut album on the label shortly afterwards.  Since then he has recorded for Seed Records, Cactus Island, Uncharted Audio, B12 and Just Music who released Save Your Light for Darker Days in 2008, followed by a retrospective compilation.  Alongside frequent collaborator, Egyptian violinist Samy Bishai, and a flexible array of band members, Digitonal have toured extensively and have been in demand as a live act, known for their improvised sets of great range and beauty.
