Those Old Love Songs (original demo)

Fake movie I wrote with the song: The film is called L’Hôtel Quelquefois (Hotel Sometimes - weird, but fairly characteristic of the pretentious names these films tend to have) and is about a relationship that fails (as all good french films are). The story takes place in Paris and the male lead is a singer songwriter from Brazil who falls for a french girl. They fall deeply in love and he plans a trip to the Cote D’Azure, during which they both plan to propose to one another, unaware that the other person has the same plan. She loves him deeply, but has had this off and on sugar daddy relationship for years before they ever met. The male lead catches her meeting him one last time to get nasty, get a last chunk of cash to buy a ring to ask the lead to marry, but then break it off with the sugar daddy. Lead character bails then becomes kind of famous with his hit “Hotel Quelquefois,” which is where he caught her cheating. This is the song and it appears in the film at the end, the female lead sitting alone in her kitchen during a heavy rain having a glass of wine and it's on the radio, credits probably rolling about halfway through it.

between the queen of england and a race car driver with a headdress on his head
I couldn’t find my clothes, and it was getting pretty cold
when i realized that everyone else in the hotel room was dead
there were buzzards sittin in the window
there was a fire in the loo
I think i’m done drinkin, at least done drinkin with you

I snuck out thru the fire escape with a towel and the headdress
i hitched a ride to a diner so i could retrace my steps
the waitress she just looked at me like a sight she’d never seen
she said you smell like a 3 day binder on absynthe and kerosene
i said could i get toast and coffee, bacon and some eggs
she said you might wanna lay off drinkin, at least with your close friends

Well I left the diner to find a place to toss my eggs and toast
my head felt like a hurricane about to devastate a coast
my mouth was dry as texas in a 40 year old draught
a homeless man who was bumming change even offered to help me out
I said which way to jersey, he said a couple states that way
And I think i’m dome drinking, at least done for today

well i finally found my place and i opened up the door
it was full of korean baptists saying what’d you come back for
you signed over your house and drove your car off a ridge
i can’t believe you’re still alive or how good that headdress fits
your partner in crime is at the bar just down the street
Well i think I’m done drinking, but I might just go check and see
