“Xmbak” in Armenian means a collective, a community. The people around us are the most important value. We’re really happy that over the past few years, we’ve met a lot of amazing people we enjoy spending time with and listening to music together.

3 years ago we opened our record store in Yerevan. For us it was important not only to immerse ourselves in and carefully study the local music culture (those who regularly dig through our Armenian music section know this), but also to share what we feel.

We approach the process of listening to music — and the space around us — with meticulousness and even devotion. We want to connect with like-minded people.

We’re very happy to have met local musicians who are, in one way or another, connected to electronic music and are in touch with their roots. That’s why we want to present our perspective on contemporary Armenian music being created right now.

We’ve compiled 16 tracks that are meaningful to us into a cassette compilation. It features producers making great stuff for the dancefloor, musicians using traditional instruments, sound experimenters, and, of course, lovers of unusual synth and drum machine sounds. In short, we’ve created an interesting Xmbak.
