Promo & Live Mixes

After deciding a few years ago to pull back from playing live shows, I've been on my own personal journey with music. Going deep into musical theory, learning to play an instrument properly and expanding my music collection to a size that massively out weights anything I had while I was Djing as my regular gig. Sourcing and experimenting with all music styles and trying to figure out a way to get them to work together musically has reignited my love of music and Djing and got me back to the roots of why I started to do it in the first place.

Chasing a music career is a double-edged sword. On one side, it gives so much and — on the other — weighs you down. As people tend to follow and love what you do, it can start to hamper you musically as the weight of expectation starts to mess with your head. Taking some time off has allowed me to focus on myself again, play music because I love it and not let anything else get in the way.

This mix is an embodiment of that process, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed doing. 

Hopefully, you can enjoy the journey as well.

Ruff N Fresh / George Fm Promo - Mixed By DiiSTORTiiON (Aug 2013)

After seeing my Classic Breakbeat Vol.1 mix reach over 16000 plays a few months ago, I knew it was time to pull my finger out and do another one. Thanks to everyone for supporting Vol.1—this new mix is for you.

I went back to the drawing board for this one and decided to approach this mix slightly differently than the first mix. Vol.1 was a nod to the smooth mixing style of Kid Kenobi, who 100% got me into breakbeat back in the day. Vol.2 alternatively is a peak time festival-mashup set, designed to take you on a ride from start to finish. As well as getting to include more classic breaks tracks I missed on Vol.1, I made an effort to slot in a lot of festival anthems from the same era of dance music (roughly 2004-2010).

So here it is, well over three months of work collecting lost music, sampling, listening to old mixes and searching for forgotten gold. I'm stoked how it turned out and I hope you will be too.

Tribe - Mixed By DiiSTORTiiON (April - 2014)

Welcome to my DiiSTORTiiON Signature Mix Series!

The idea behind this mix series is to break up the styles of tunes I usually use for my Multi-Genre mixes and give them their own stand-alone mix.
Often when I approach a Multi–Genre mix I choose tracks that work with the rest of the mix and as a result of that I sometimes leave out tracks that I’m really digging but don’t work with the mix as a whole. 
By breaking up the 3 main styles I use for my sets it gives me more freedom to explore these styles in more depth over the course of an hour mix.
So here they are!

DnB/Bass  = All the DnB and Bass Music styles I squeeze into my sets but in a full one hour journey.

Mid Tempo – All the tracks I use as fillers and starts and ends of my sets. This is definitely programed to be more of a listening journey mix than an in your face banging one.

Breakbeat – A full one-hour mix of breakbeat and some 140 stuff for good measure. Heaps of my own originals and unreleased stuff in this one.



Expect heaps of edits/ mashups/ double drops / layering and original tracks over all 3 mixes.

DiiSTORTIION Signature Mix Series - Breakbeat [March 2015]

So it recently dawned on me that this year marks 10 years since I had my first support gig at Ambar back in 2006 playing before Dopamine – 10 bloody years!!
Since then music has taken me all over Australia and overseas and allowed me to connect with people all over the world that would have never been possible had it not been for our mutual interest in music.
So I think it’s about time I did a mix paying tribute to that awesome time in my life – the gigs/parties/after parties/boat parties and festivals.
Flashing back to 2004 – 2006 I couldn’t get away without paying respect to Kid Kenobi who single handedly got me and most of the people I know into Djing at the time. 
I learnt to mix by listening to his breaks mixes on repeat. 
So this mix is as much a tribute to him as it is to the talented artists included in it.

Under Suspicion Promo – Mixed By DiiSTORTiiON (May 2010)

This mix pretty much sums up where my head space is at the moment when it comes to music and djing.
I’m really focusing on trying to mold all sounds that I like in a set and not restricting myself to a particular genre or bpm range. Its basically the sound that I will be showcasing every week at Brown Alley’s resident Saturdays ‘Under Suspicion’.

So after watching my favourite TV series of 2016 – Stranger Things, I was inspired to make a Mixtape style mix of all the beats I’ve been listening to and digging this year.
This mix was a lot of fun to make as I collated all the tracks I wanted to put in it and started to mould them together in an interesting way.

A few weeks back I got an email from Scott from The Crystal Method asking me to do a mix for their “Community Service” radio show out of the US.
It pretty much blew me away that the guys had asked me personally to do this, I’ve been a fan of their work way before I even knew what a turntable was.
So this is my mini mix I did for them. 20 minutes multi genre mix, cut up tracks acapellas and samples layered all over the mix.

Pushing phat, driving broken beat sounds for over a decade, DiiSTORTiiON has had plenty of experience playing at clubs and gigs across Australia and abroad. Having multiple national tours under his belt and having shared the stage regularly with some of the biggest names in broken beat music, DiiSTORTiiON is no stranger to the decks.
His roots firmly planted in Breakbeat, DiiSTORTiiON pulls influences from across the electronic music spectrum in both his production and live performances. A hybrid sound of drum driven electronic music has seen him rise in popularity within the international and local Broken Beat scene, both in the music charts and in the live arena.
