Operator Radio: natural selection

An assembly of memories, sounds and conversations, captured both in a planned way and spontaneously. 
Conversations are shared during mealtimes. At times they don’t make any sense, but they brought meaning and that warm, fuzzy feeling to the memory of spending time together.
We talk about beans, sheep and cheese. As one might notice, the crowd if fully international: a Dutch guy, an American girl, a Tunisian guy, a south African girl and yours truly. Listening back, the conversations bring me back to that moment so vividly. I remember the gestures that everyone was making, something that a listener who has no context could only guess. I remember the bird and the baby that someone noticed and how the conversation shifted randomly to describing them. We discuss weed and whether it should only be smoked after or during food consumption (to me, it’s an ‘after’ thing). We talk about a genius name for a cheese shop, the perfect soup and all the silly little things one discusses mindlessly or mindfully when sharing food. A warm, fuzzy memory.

Dusk, sea, hugs and talks. A warm, wholesome afternoon of reunions with beloved friends, cooking and eating.

Etude03: So Long

An audio letter for my father and my homeland.
It portrays our relationship as friends, outdoor adventurers and partners in crime. The recordings take place on lake Issyk-Kul and lake Ala-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. The latter is a high altitude mountain lake that is stunning and serene. After a long 6 hour steep ascent up to 3200m, it was an absolute joy to arrive and set camp by the turquoise lake and start hunting for fresh spring water. The rhythm and melody of the water made an impact on us both: the soothing flow of the spring water and the gentle waves in the lake. The purity of it harmonized with the loud silence of the mountains lulled us to a serene and meditative state that can only be experience there and then.

Etude04: Loud silence

A compilation of music and field recordings with protests, speeches, chants and beats. This is a humble mix that emphasizes a call for immediate ceasefire, a call for peace, for liberation and for unity.
