As part of our continuing efforts to celebrate and support the best in underground music, we are excited to present the DJ Directory, which aims to shine a spotlight on some of the best unsigned yet burgeoning DJ talent that our festival family and friends have been lucky enough to play with and listen to, since our beginnings six years ago. The Directory also serves as a space for Dimensions’ network of promoters, producers, labels and attendees to find out more about unsigned DJs accredited by the festival and our trusted partners.

We launched the Directory in 2017 with a mix series and had a selection of the DJ’s join us at the festival. In 2018 the Directory will continue to grow and support these DJ’s across various events and projects.

Byron the Aquarius is on a roll. As well as being a key proponent in the American house scene, and after a time spent as a producer for others, he is now making very much part of the conversation over in Europe. His music has landed on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature, Kyle Hall’s Wild Oats and is forthcoming on Eglo. It is warm and deep, with the organic edge and smartly sampled soul that makes US house music so appealing.  A keys player by trade, he is also a formal student of jazz, and all this shines through in his recorded output as well as the records he mixes together all over the world. 

Over the course of an hour for us, Byron serves up breezy and musical house grooves dripping with cosmic keys, jazz looseness and timeless good time vibes. It’s a mix with a big heart and effortless mixing style that manages to be deep but dynamic, and is one of the reasons we are so excited for him to play with us in Amsterdam in August.

Ash specialises in underground dance music and says most of her influence stems from her roots back home in Detroit. As an active member of the dance music community for over a decade, Ash has hosted her own event series called ORBIT and is currently a resident DJ with Atlanta’s Deep South crew.

His sets consist of a variety of house and techno with influences taken from late 80’s and 90’s records and DJ’s from Chicago, Detroit and the UK. Recorded live in the Ballroom, this set is a clear example of his passion for classic records and his eye for a foot-stomping modern release.

Minus Kendal - DJ Directory Live 2018

Champagne Funk are the duo that dig deeper. Consisting of Bryce’s Brother and Dique, the two DJs are known for exploring a rich tapestry of sounds from post-punk to UK Street Soul, Chicago House and beyond with selections both sophisticated and funky. In addition to playing parties across the country, the pair also hold down a residency on South London radio station Balamii.

In this mix as part of our DJ Directory series, the pair explore the weirder side of their collection: a mix of old and new but all in a similar vein of dark, twisted chug. The more experimental sounds of the left-field heavily influence the mix, yet it's underpinned with that trademark Champagne Funk groove. Dig in.

We're pleased to announce a new addition to the DJ Directory family. Emily Hill AKA https://soundcloud.com/can_u_feel_ml3 is part of the team behind https://soundcloud.com/bradleyzero and https://soundcloud.com/internationalblack, keeping things ticking over at the labels and helping to curate their regular club nights. As a DJ and radio host she holds down residencies on South London’s Balamii and Noods in Bristol, and can also be found working behind the counter at Soho vinyl institution, Sounds of the Universe.

With this mix we get a small insight into her love of weird party bangers and her natural ability to get a party started. With talent and dedication in abundance, her growth as an artist and selector show no signs of stopping anytime soon. Catch her alongside other DJ Directory crew at this year's festival as part of the last dance in Fort Punta Christo.

MLE - DJ Directory Mix

The sound of Detroit's LADYMONIX is deeply informed by the city's rich musical history. Rooted in jacking grooves and deep basslines, she's just as confident in pumping out house anthems on her label Frizner Electric as she is on the decks. In her Choice Mix, she goes on a deep dive into house anthems, ballroom bangers and soulful beats. All with a healthy dose of sass, of course.
