In a slight change to our scheduled program we deliver just in time for Christmas something rather special. Singularly Voigtmann and John Dimas have been major players on the underground house and techno scene for some time, with their respective labels Subsequent and Elephant Moon both doing important work for the more electro leaning end of the spectrum. They have of course joined forces with devastating effect and the result is VO1GT.M4S – a back to back that combines both artists’ deadly skills both in the studio and in the DJ booth. This combination has seen key performances from the pair in dual mode and they were teasing new joint material in their sets long before they dropped their double wax LP ‘Internal Transmission’ back in August last year on the pairs newly formed joint label Intermission Records. The Shelter walls have heard some pretty outstanding music over the past year and, while we know that you can’t quite re-create the magic we all experience on the night, some sets are just too good not to share. We’ve dug through our archives, and thought long and hard about the perfect pick to get this series off the ground. Trust us, this was not an easy choice. 

Who better to get the ball rolling than our brilliant resident, a pivotal figure of the Amsterdam underground and a staple of house music’s current international scene, Reiss. This set of his during VBX at Shelter, in November last year, had us all in awe.

The REC series compiles outstanding performances recorded in the club throughout the year, highlighting artists representing our love for electronic music.

Back in November 2022, Dyed Soundorom and Gene On Earth performed a stirring 3 hours long back-to-back in our Room 01. Along the way, the two protagonists deliver seamless transitions one after the other. Effortlessly.

Forging a voyage through house and beyond, the recording set is intuitively filled with flickering sounds and stripped-down grooves, as seductive as we like. Sometimes brainy yet made to make you move, it’s not your average artist combo. Nuggin’ it up!

Reiss has a unique charm behind the decks, using rhythms and soundscapes in surprising combinations that create unmistakeable atmospheres for dance floors and headphones alike. For mix 221 in our series we get an exquisite example of this signature sound and a brief insight into his extensive record collection.

Reiss has been a pivotal figure of the Amsterdam house and techno underground for quite some time and is a close affiliate of the VBX crew DJing regularly at their events and releasing on the VBX label in collaboration with Ferro, under their Spokenn moniker. Now focussing on music full-time, we're looking forward to hearing more from Reiss.
