ID on the last acid banger? 1:15 // anyone?

Our Brooklyn-Amsterdam connection has been growing stronger each day in the past few years. The bond our platform has with artists and labels from Amsterdam is truly special. The amount of talented artists and quality music that emerges (almost feels like daily) from the vibrant Dutch scene is mind-boggling. In that type of environment you really need to do something original and of high quality to get recognized. One of the record labels that has been on a steady rise since their initial release in 2017, Kalahari Oyster Cult seems to be making all the right moves. For all good reasons, Kalahari Oyster Cult is considered as one of the most exciting imprints nowadays which pushes the boundaries of electronic music with each new release and is home to artists like Roza Terenzi, Erell Ranson, Cleveland, A Psychic Yes and Reptant to name a few. 

The mastermind behind all this is Rey Colino, DJ and curator, whose mixes have been on heavy rotation in our HQs. In 2020, Colino started a new project - a vinyl-focused distribution service One Eye Witness. The project acts as a missing link between record labels and artists that share similar philosophies and provides them with a foundation to further develop. By being the main curator for both Kalahari Oyster Cult and One Eye Witness and with the amount of quality music that goes through his hands on a daily basis, Rey Colino is a perfect addition to our 'Delayed with...' series. 

The mix Colino made for us is a brilliant, feel-good energetic voyage that features tons of forthcoming releases. Technically immaculate with a great vibe all over, this mix is one of the best we heard this year. Hats off, Rey Colino!

This mix is a live excerpt from one of the last parties we played before covid turned everything upside down. Two hours cut from an 8 hour set at Colour in Melbourne. After all these months, and finally listening back, we felt like it captures the essence of our DJ style quite well and took us back to those fun moments on the dance floor, feeding off the dancers energy. We hope you find some joy in it and we look forward to joining you all on the dance floor when it's safe to do so in 2021 :-)

Favorite weird drug experience?

Being dressed head to toe as one of the twins from the Matrix on a New Years Day boat party in Perth. Picture full-length trench coat and horrific makeup on a 39°C day whilst everyone else looked smexy in leather bikinis. 

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Smaller venues are hopefully able to stay open. More consideration from promoters in curations of parties, appropriate bookings with intention of a night rather than names on a bill. Deeper value of local scenes and the willingness to work together in these - less gatekeeping. More day parties, outdoor parties. Genuine progression with overall diversity, less tokenism.

Roza Terenzi - 11˚C

In recent times, Space Cadets have taken the scene by storm. Based in Leeds, UK, the two are quickly becoming synonymous with a modern and exciting tech/trancey style of production. Both are also residents/co-run the party/mix series @on-rotation-music

Marlon (@liseneuk) & Adam (@adampits) have pioneered a new and unique sound, inspired by elements of 90's and early 2000's tech/trance/prog and electronica but with their own signature touches and embedded with a distinctly UK vibe. With respective releases on Planet Euphorique, Banoffee Pies, X-Kalay & Holding Hands, not only are both incredibly talented producers in their own right, but this mix is proof that their ability to select and compile a compelling set is just as impressive. 

This mix is what we all need after a long 2020.

Sanguine (@user-638584250) is a local Sydney/Eora artist who has kept a low key profile for the most part..  but in recent times Rob has caught the ears of many - and rightly so!

Rob is a classically trained musician, wielding an impressive lyrical ability and amazing guitar skills. His ear for tone and rhythm shines through in his organic & fresh mixes and production alike. This mix is a seamless reflection of his diverse range as an artist, spanning tastefully through different genres and moods.

Adam Pits could very well be one of the hottest names in the underground right now. The Leeds DJ & producer, like many other artists, refused to let the misery of 2020 halt their creative output.Instead, Pits maintained focus and released EP’s via Coastal Haze, X-Kalay and Space Labs, appeared on compilations with One Records, Wex and others, and remixed tracks on labels such as Planet Euphorique and Dansu Discs.

Reptant joins our series this week with a mix he describes as "an otherworldly transmission intercepted on earth accelerating through the golden BPM range for electro, which for me is between but not limited to 130BPM to 145BPM. Journeying through new and old underground trippy bass injected electro gems the mix features some quick mixing, some long blends and as usual a few of the latest unreleased Reptant weapons."

Reptant's music features regularly within our playlists and with new material incoming on Die Orakel (his label debut) we know there are some guaranteed new editions on the way... The New Adaptive Lacerta EP is an essential listen for electronic music fans of any taste, especially those with an appetite for the dark, frantic electro sounds and the laid-back left-field sounds of mid-to-late 90s UK IDM.
