Joe Delon loves music. You might think that would (or should) be self-evident in someone who DJs for a living, but the electronic music world would be a better place if everyone cared and thought as much as he did. In addition to being an increasingly in-demand DJ, he runs a stellar label, Welt Discos and moonlights as a music writer, with a beloved Substack newsletter that he usually updates twice a week. A blend of touring DJ travelogue and mix recommendations, it's a rich source of information and music from an artist with a warm, friendly voice—and perhaps more importantly, impeccable taste.

It's that taste that has endeared him to many dance music fans around the world over the last few years, developing a dedicated fanbase who greet every new mix with bated breath (including, hopefully, this one). He's something of a record digger, but not in the clichéd way—he just loves to find records new and old full of melody, springy rhythms and a generally quirky, positive vibe. The music he selects often has an '80s tinge to it, even when it's not from the '80s, but it's hard to pin down what he plays, both because his sets are so unpredictable, and because it wouldn't be fair.

His RA Podcast, as he explains below, is meant to sum up his last year of DJing, a carefully put together selection of favourites from 2022 (meaning records he played that year, not that came out last year). As always, it's a mix of familiar and far-flung records, mixed with Delon's breezy, unique style. Part of the reason why people have come to love his DJing so much is that it just kind of puts a smile on your face. Listen and you'll see.

Yes yes ! This one took some time, mostly from my side, since the beginning of summer focus has been a bit off-focused. But here we are back on track presenting you a very special summer soaked podcast by Paris-based Tom Joyce.

I met Tom last year in August together with his buddy Juliano at Heidegluehen club in Berlin where he took over the decks after my long warm up set. I got completely sucked into his groove and we later hung out the whole day and night in this special club full of love and peace. A place for real house music. 

Tom also runs the amazing Sounds Benefit label releasing deep electro, breaky house and quirky minimal. 

I’m very pleased to have this classy dj, producer and label owner with us for our most recent podcast.  Open your windows, serve yourself a cold beverage and enjoy the jams in this excellent mixtape.

The Basic Moves Of ... TOM JOYCE

@dj-koolt has been pivotal to the rise of his native Uruguayan scene ever since he started spinning in the 90s. Rooted in Montevideo, he made it one of the most exciting places to hear minimalist dance music. Its spiritual home is Phonotheque, the club he co-founded a decade ago and where he lays down his forward-thinking sounds to a devoted and hardcore fan base. 

The scene Godfather goes big for us this week with a two-hour deep dive into his sound. It perfectly showcases his silky transitions and ability to tell stories on the dance floor. Acid, breaks and techno are the foundational sounds but they are embellished in signature style with plenty of spaced-out designs, a sense of gritty industrial futurism and plenty of avant-garde electronics.

We feel extremely honoured to be able to present the next addition to our mix series, our dear friend Bart live at Distrikt.

In his time on this planet, Bart only ever played out a handful of times. He wasn’t particularly infatuated with the the glitz associated with the DJ lifestyle, above all his focus lay with digging for incredible music. By the time his talents began to receive the attention they deserved, he already possessed a bag of tunes so refined it would’ve been easy to mistake him for someone who’d been at it for twice as many years as he.

The recording is the majority of his 2 1/2 hour set, enduring until till the club’s close. It is a prime example of what DJing can be when it’s at its best, a journey with moments of elation, introspection, complexity and even humour too. We saw Bart’s tunes bring a feeling of connection and unity to the Distrikt dancefloor seldom seen in any club which is a memory we will always cherish.
