National and international renowned researcher, author, educator and presenter Dr.Joy DeGruy visited Southern Illinois University-Carbondale to discuss Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome. PTSS, a study DeGruy has worked on for years and in her book, sharing the knowledge of the syndrome and how it's anger towards the past of slavery and hardships African Americans faced. DeGruy constructed a well displayed lecture of information while also relating and interacting with the audience who shared their thoughts as well. Topics ranged from slavery, problems in the black community now, the Flint, Michigan water crisis and even the impact of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and how it effected the black community. One thing that was left from hearing this intellectual and uplifting lecture, was the urge to feel good about black identity and to embrace each individual's inner greatness.
