BATOV came to life in London, but the music has its roots in those odd corners of the globe where people make music just for the fun of it. Back in the heady summer days of 2013, DJ Kobayashi & Bob Martyn started up Batov as simply a place to call home for Gypsy Hill’s catalogue. Around the same time, Herbert Newbert & Kobayashi set up a recording studio & production team – Down & Left was born. For the next few years the duo were based on London’s historic Denmark Street and worked with scores of bands and artists – many of whom also needed a label on which to release. Slowly the Batov Records sound came together with this early batch of artists, focusing on world grooves with a particularly Mediterranean flavour.

Hailing all the way from Brooklyn New York, JKriv is a DJ and producer, an excellent musician of many instruments and the co-founding guitarist of the band Escort, a major player of the esteemed Razor-N-Tape record label and of course a man in possession of an impressive vinyl collection.

'Make It Hot’, has been a long held favourite of the Bside Crew, a deep and groovy production with a pure disco energy that can get any party started.

But it doesn’t end there, JKriv has a huge array of disco edits, original tracks, and cutting edge releases on his Brooklyn based label - trend setting and boundary pushing in almost every facet of the industry. His tracks feature in the sets of some of the biggest names in the game, Derrick Carter, Louie Vega, Mark Farina, Greg Wilson and the late great Andrew Weatherall. He himself has been sharing his own collection and good vibes with dance floors the world over, and sharing line-ups with some equally impressive names.

This episode of Bside is a delectable dose of the good times from an artist at the pinnacle of modern disco.
