GRIEF GESTURES (for 9 Instruments)

'' (non) Gravity '' is a piece for female voice, melodica and percussion, all amplified with reverb. It consists entirely on short phrases. It is based on R.M. Rilke's poem ''Autumn''. The melodica part was based on the Japanese instrument Sho. This is the recording of the work's premiere in New York City in September 5th 2014. Performers: Motomi Tanaka (voice), Dimitrios Skyllas (melodica)and Cory Bracken (percussion).

Text:
The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,
as if orchards were dying high in space.
Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no."

And tonight the heavy earth is falling
away from all other stars in the loneliness.

We're all falling. This hand here is falling.
And look at the other one. It's in them all.

And yet there is Someone, whose hands
infinitely calm, holding up all this falling.
