I'm fairly proud of the two main theme of this piece, they have grace and a simplicity that makes it very malleable and expressive. That is, I hope, well displayed through modulation I employed (G-B-D) and frequent switching from major to minor. 
I particularly liked the final bit of the exposition where I reversed the main theme, played it descending instead of ascending, which added a layer of macabre/discord displayed and emphasized through chromaticism and dissonance.
There is still a middle part mising that I may add in the coming days, (although that would transform the form of the piece, so an impromptu might not be the correct title, but we'll see).

Whatever Happens

A composition depicting perhaps the midst of snowy winter, where the encroaching cold is held at bay with a memory of a loved one. 
Harmonically I mostly stayed in D minor/major, with a brief excursion in G minor. I've attempeted to write a middle passage in F major, but the two themes I've managed to come up with simply didn't fit with the rest of the music, but hey, at least I have two new themes for next pieces.

PROGRAM NOTE
As a child, my parents vacationed at a summer cottage in Maine by a small lake. Often by myself, I would sit on a giant boulder and watch the lake and the wildlife for hours.

One day, a beautiful bright-winged dragonfly flew across the lake and hovered before me. I was startled and intrigued: its long, slender blue body glistened in the sunlight. Finally, it began to fly around the perimeter of the lake. It stopped every few minutes and hovered in place, almost as if waiting for me to follow it. I followed the dragonfly until sunset, imagining a world in which only the dragonfly existed, on its own terms, within its own world.

Years later, I hiked around the Niagara Gorge near Niagara Falls and explored Devil’s Hole Park. There is an opening on the side of a cliff called Devil’s Hole Cave. Interestingly, early Native Americans called it the Cave of the Evil Spirit and foretold subsequent disaster to anyone who dared enter the cave. The combination of the lake, the dragonfly, and Devil’s Hole Cave all came together and helped crystalize the idea for this work.

Journey of a Dragonfly begins as the sun rises; a foreboding darkness looms in the background, contrasting the Dragonfly’s graceful entrance into a world filled with the excitement of being alive. A gust of wind carries dandelion seeds skyward alongside butterflies and rainbow-colored wildflowers. Butterflies land on flowers before the Dragonfly ventures through a dark forest and emerges, only to be chased by five blackbirds. Weaving back and forth to try and escape, the Dragonfly flies into a narrow crevice as two of the blackbirds collide with trees. While still being chased, the three remaining birds retreat as the Dragonfly discovers a dark hole leading to a tunnel. The dragonfly speeds down the ghoulish tunnel and emerges at the end of the tunnel at the side of a cliff, hovering in place. It looks around in horror and sees a gigantic cavern and then Devil Town. After flying through Devil Town and witnessing tortured souls, a bomb factory, Attorney Alley, and the Devil’s Saloon, off in the distance, the Dragonfly sees Satan’s House on a hill and decides to explore. The Dragonfly enters the house and sees the Devil Child, the Devil Mother, and the Devil himself. Suddenly, the Devil Child catches the Dragonfly in a glass jar as the parents prepare dinner in the kitchen. The Dragonfly eventually manages to escape, only to be chased by the Devil Child and then by a group of hellish bats. After a chaotic chase, the Dragonfly finds the tunnel and speeds back toward the world above. Finally free, the Dragonfly finds a flat rock to rest. The tale concludes as the Dragonfly falls asleep, the sun sets by the lake, and the evening fades to black.

Journey of a Dragonfly for Orchestra

This piece opens with a gentle warmth, its harmonies flowing like a serene stream under soft light. Rooted in A-flat major, it delicately balances serenity and quiet strength, with each phrase thoughtfully shaped to evoke introspection.

The tender yet purposeful melody weaves seamlessly through a subtle accompaniment, creating moments of poignant stillness and heartfelt resolution. Embracing simplicity, the composition allows the emotional depth of each note to shine, while gentle modulations trace a narrative of reflection and quiet hope.

Prelude in A-flat major

The 34th vocal track.  Sort of a running joke set in kind of a 19th century frame about romantic rivalry and maybe the use of language and semantics.

Lyrics:
While we were searching for the legendary Cupid's Zambezi
My rival tried his best, though lazy
To conceal his damning catachrest
Halfway down the river Switchamee
I got up a wild hair
To expose this sniveling liar
He responded that he did not care
For being used as a floating signifier  

Having heard then and parried his scorn 
And though I really would not rather,
The forlorn burden of his blather was not so hard to carry then
His discourse, an embarrassment to any doctrinarian
I slid into tolerating this ultracrepidarian fool
Mildly resenting that he was philologically incompetent
But as long as what he did paid the rent
His lexicon though a travesty, made the trip a sum well spent 

His verbal sins, an egregious praxis
A malicious definist, someone engaging in willful anacrisis
A veritable saboteur-fool lexique of a worm
His method for attaining small wins 
Was a unique sigh in the annals of catachresis
Though his banal opinion of my technique 
Was that I was stubborn as a mule
I preferred the term
Smart-Person-Who-Understands-Language-Is-Instead-A-Tool

One day I got up the gumption to aver
And dared to bluster breezily
For a man who qualifies for her
You sure do scare easily  

He imperiously fired back
You petulant little elf
For your futile attempts to take this tack
You can seriously just go get wrecked
The dildo of consequence rarely arrives lubed
Or you just ironically defined yourself
Unless you tell me I'm incorrect
Then by the way
You're either free or double-trapped inside Metatron's Cube

A lot is happening in my life at this moment. Sometimes for me music is a way to escape all the stuff, that makes life complicated. I started working on this new ep and had a lot of emotions and thoughts, which were in need of some form of expression. I really hope you like my compositions, because I put a lot of love, time and work into these. From writing to playing the tracks in a recording environment - I did everything on my own! :)

They Call me #2

A self-taught composer, who has found his voice in older and traditional forms and styles of music.
Currently mostly composing for piano, but I have grand ambitions for writing chamber music and symphonies.
My music has a lot of variety in a way that expresses all kinds of sentiments, both intrapersonal and extrapersonal, kept in a cohesion by an underlying narrative; every composition is its own journey or a adventure, and I invite any guests who stumble upon my page to take part in it.
