On Where Is It Most Comfortable For You?, Grammy Award Winning Dionne Farris teams up with Australian native, artist and guitarist, Daniel March. Their unique paring came by way of Daniel reaching out to the singer/songwriter, expressing his reverence for her musical talents and body of work. Via email, he wrote he'd be coming to Atlanta to record an album and hoped he might get a chance to meet her. Dionne read the email, investigated the links sent of his solo music, liked what she heard and reached back out. When Daniel arrived in Atlanta, they met and an instant musical friendship developed. Hitting it off so well, the two spent the day talking about musical facts and sharing stories of the music business. Their first bulls eye is the intriguing lead single, Where Is It Most Comfortable For You?...butter (right?). Dionne and Daniel have committed to creating an entire project for 2014 over the internet via a "foreign exchange".

The musicians' decision to record as a duo — Farris singing, Hunter playing his custom seven-string guitar — pays off handsomely. If you're accustomed to hearing Warwick's songs played with lush orchestration behind them, to hear everything stripped down to bare wisps of melodies and rhythms reveals nuances and highlights not always obvious in the originals. Another pair might have been tempted to fill in all that open space with endless runs or virtuoso solos, but Hunter and Farris keep things smartly sparse and seductively intimate.

The redefining of Farris’s music on Dionne Get Your Gunn is a complete reversal from her last 2011 release, Lady Dy The Mixtape Part 1, which has been described as "a collection of raw textures and colors, in sound, beats and lyrics," produced by rapper/producer Dwight Conroy Farrell, aka Count Bass D. “If you aim always for the truth of the tune, Jazz gives you the opportunity to have a new experience every time you perform a song; I likened the idea behind Dionne Get Your Gunn to what Nina Simone did with her music. She was able and ‘allowed’ (if you will, by the audience) to keep her own interest in the song, by performing the truth of it in the new moment”, says Farris. On Dionne Get Your Gunn, Ms. Farris does just that!

Gunn’s arrangement of Farris’ #1 Top 40 pop hit “I Know” is done in 5/4 time signature, and it never misses a beat, and neither does Farris in her sticking of new landings for the song. You don’t miss what you loved about the song in its original style. “As a listener, what you get is satisfaction instead of disappointment.” What you come to realize (if you didn’t already know), is that Dionne Farris is a powerhouse. The surprise of the recording came on set 2, night 2 (October 13th, 2012).   It’s a somewhat obscure cover entitled “The Ballad of The Sad Young Men”, a Landesman-Wolf collaboration from a 1950’s musical called The Nervous Set.  First discovered by Dionne via Roberta Flack’s 1969 debut, First Take, Farris says, ”The lyrics to The Ballad always rang (and still, evermore) relevant in my ears of the world we live in.
