Depeche Mode — Work Hard. A Directionless Cover /  Music Video

Part of a show featuring the music of the University Electro-Acoustic Ensemble.  This was my solo piece.  

Nothing too elaborate on the composition (had to keep it simple enough to not mess up). :P

Instruments used and how they were controlled:

Bassline Arp - Korg MS2000 BR.  A patch set to latch mode and controlled with MIDI keyboard controller.  Tempo-synced with the DAW.

DAW - Renoise on a laptop using a Focusrite iTrack Solo audio interface.  Also a Roland UM-3EX MIDI IO box.

These 3 sounds were controlled simultaneously with the MIDI guitar:

Choir patch - Lokomotiv vst in laptop DAW
Low range synth brass - Akai SGv01
White noise patch - Sylenth1 via Muse Receptor 1 rev C.

The audio from the external instruments were plugged into a small analog mixer. The total outs were routed back into the Focusrite's 2-track I/O and mixed with the softsynth in the DAW.

Recording captured by a mini-disc recorder jacked into the PA mixer in the theater.  I couldn't do live mixing and sound balancing to great effect so not all parts of the piece are an optimal frequency balance.

Next show in 6 months, I will try to incorporate tempo-synced beats into the mix on a new piece.

The Roland 'partials' system of design is complex and not particularly fun.  The antithesis of analog knob tweaking.

Yet, you can build a powerful patch, assigning partials at differing velocities and note ranges.
